Celebrity Hunter Outrage (Canadian Edition)

Recommended Posts

Once more the justice league of social media were out in force to condemn a hunter. Minor Canadian celebrity Steve Ecklund shot a mountain lion in Alberta and posted his pictures on social media but was quickly condemned online.

He showed the type of resolve we like to see when he posted  "If you can guess what post has 900 likes, 450 comments, 13 confirmed death threats, 754 swear words and one very happy hunter in it.......I will enter your name into the draw for the new cougar cook book, filled with mouth watering recipes for your next mountain lion,"  to his FB account and concluded by defending that he's going to use every part of the animal.

Here he is with his confirmed big cat kill...

I think lion season opened in most places about a month or so back. I love waking up and having a flick through social media of all the lion hunters I follow and seeing videos of hounds going like hell at the base of a fir in the snow.

The houndsmans life in the north looks a good one!

Just saw it.......Cecil the lion part deux, trial by media :help:Theres a small number of cougar tags issued in alberta each year, thats what keeps the populations healthy, alberta hunts are also the most expensive for cats with $12000 being quoted for 2018 as the toms there are on average huge.

I am 90% doing one next season or the season after, been on my bucket list for years and always found other uses for the cash, you can do them in Utah, colorado etc for average $5500 which is nothing for such an experience, the alberta ones are normally booked 2-3 years in advance because of the size of the cats.

I put a post up asking for reccommendations for reliable cat guides who achieve good results on a bowhunting forum,a couple are in Utah, its not knocking a cat out of a tree that's the attraction, its the whole experience, something a little different from a week in Benidorm, imagine listening to hounds work a line across a valley  I will study that guidebook, thank you.

I'll make some enquiries this end as cat hunting isn't something I've done but there are loads in the southwest here and the follow the deer population.

Here's another link for Utah's DWR. Some good info on there.

Not much chance of me having a spare 4k+ to spend on it but it would be amazing for sure. I honestly wouldn't care for killing one just getting close and personal and having a race through the mountains. Hunting black bear sounds good too, in standing corn or bailed up in a cave but I'd be wanting to kill one of them.

I’d love a bash but it would have to be treed an freed?

This isn't a piss take but I'd actually like to get one on camera. I can do all of the above but the only shot would be the photo. I do like those cats.
