Minkenry 1,044
This was filmed in either January or February of 2017, and was the most exciting muskrat hunt I have ever experienced! Unfortunately the footage wasn't the best since I filmed it on my cell phone, and it all happened so fast, and right at my feet. But I was quite excited to see that I caught as much on film as I ended up getting! https://youtu.be/TXoSdFpkmxM Edited September 18, 2017 by Minkenry 10 Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
Another cracking bit of footage again .... a couple of questions ...... Is that a waterproof locating collar the mink is wearing ??? When the mink is in work mode hunting for a muskrat are you able to handle her and pick her up if you wanted to ??? Quote Link to post
Minkenry 1,044
Another cracking bit of footage again .... a couple of questions ...... Is that a waterproof locating collar the mink is wearing ??? When the mink is in work mode hunting for a muskrat are you able to handle her and pick her up if you wanted to ??? The reason for the collar is a dog training friend of mine talked me into trying this idea he had already tested on a ferret. He trained a ferret to bring back its kills using a vibrating e-collar, and said I should give it a try with my mink. So I gave it a try, and he's right, it is a pretty useful training tool! We are trying to get the same company that made the original vibrating collar we used to make a much smaller training collar, as the one they have is pretty small for a dog, but it is HUGE on a little mink or ferret. Some mink can be touchy abut handling them when all full of adrenaline, but this particular mink can be safely handled under almost any circumstance. I have taken something she shouldn't been eating out of her mouth, cleaned her wounds, and given her shots without her even trying to hurt me. But not all mink are as nice to handle as she is. Minkenry 1,044
Good vid bud Probably your best yet. Atb It is definitely one of my all time favorite videos, but in person it was actually FAR better! It all happened right at my feet, and I missed a bit of the action in the film. I really can't complain though, as I usually mess up trying to film things far worse when there is that much action happening! Quote Link to post

Yeah, I hope to someday soon get a video of her diving under the water to catch one! This video is cool because you can see her stick her face under, but I've seen her dive into decently deep water, almost completely submerging herself, and then surface with a muskrat in her mouth! It's SUPER cool to watch! She is 40.6% staghound, 37.5% hot blood, 12.5% English Pointer, and 9.4% Saluki. Edited September 19, 2017 by Minkenry Quote Link to post
