In which case, why would anyone criticise those who ARE willing to do it ?

The truth is sometimes hard to face if the British people had filled the jobs they're would have been no jobs for people from abroad So the only people to blame are soft politicians who make people lazy by being better off not working. Free house free car money.

The tide is always incoming,it never ebbs, how many brits head off to pakistan or nigeria to set up home?Radio earlier today some fruit and veg producers were lamenting they couldnt get enough farm-workers and were making a concerted effort to recruit from bulgaria and romania, the games f****d,a decent political party with no hidden agendas except for the well-being of the indiginous population would clean up,it would be a one horse race.

How did the fruit and veg growers survive before we were in the EU? If an exemption isn't made for seasonal workers from abroad they can either increase their wages, increase their mechanisation, or change to growing different crops.
You mean 40 years ago? I'd say alots changed in that industry since then. A growing industry with dwindling interest from our indigenous population.

As for growing different crops? you think fruit & vege farms will just switch to growing wheat & barley?

It is a problem with no easy answer. Forcing our own people to do this work is one way? But unrealistic.

It's quite an interesting subject really. We've been encouraging our youth to be more aspirational for many years, which is great, but the down side is a loss of interest in many areas of different industries. How do we fill the void?

There's no need to force people to work in fruit farms, if you increase the wages to a certain point you'll have a lot of people who want to do that type of work. It'll just mean the fruit becomes more expensive for the consumer. If they're unable to compete at those prices then they'll go out of business and the land will be used for other types of agriculture.

To get teenagers to fill voids in industries I think students should get cut price tuition fees or grants for subjects where they're needed, like in science and engineering.

I don't actually think you will, maybe some, but on the whole those jobs are just not attractive enough, even with a small wage increase & let's be honest here the wages could never be that high. These can be hard, dirty jobs sometimes & the youth have really moved away from those kinds of jobs.

I've said this many times on here, but my mates own a building firm & in ten years they cannot get young workers, they are still relying on an obese 50 year old alcoholic for most of their labouring! They just cannot get anyone...haha...

Your other point I totally agree on. We will need solutions if Brexit is successful & reducing other migration become real. It won't just right itself.

Rural communities tend to have small populations and low unemployment, so they don't have the availability of local labour. Wages aren't sufficient to allow commuting workers - their seasonal workforce are mostly Bulgarians and Romanians, who live a semi-nomadic existence, moving from harvest to harvest, farm to farm.

The flexibility of workforce suits the growers, who have narrow windows of harvesting time......

As some of these operations have grown, the need for more permanent workers have increased. I've certainly noticed that from where I'm from. 30 years ago it was just seasonal workers required. & this is isn't so rural, where a lack of people is an issue.

On a more general level, people will do any job providing the price is right. Increasing the supply of labour through high levels of immigration is one of the reasons low paying wages have been stagnating, as they lose the ability to negotiate their wage level by withdrawing their labour.

Many of the fruit pickers days will be numbered as their jobs eventually get replaced by machines and robots.

Nigel Farage is the only Politician with the for sight and balls to do what needs doing.

The rest and incompetent fools.

I said It a few years ago.

The planet is dying' we rapeing it's natural resources for fun and pound notes.

The world is over populated.

A world wide 2 child police should be implemented but never will.

We won't as human beings realise till it's far too late.

Stephen Hawking today estimates humans have 200 years left on planet earth till it's fooked.

He states we need to find other planets that can sustain us in that time.

Only the Rich and Famous will get that golden ticket.

The rest will be left to die with Mother Earth.

We are a plague ' a virus ' a disease.

Wankers that we are.

Mother earth will be just fine she's been through far more than we could ever throw at her ..us on the other hand I'd agree the clock is ticking.
