Berserker 0
Hi, I spoke to my local police authority today regarding a variation on my FAC. For a .243 stating I have acquired some more permission and the landowner wants Roe deer and fox managed. The lady I spoke to said that a .243 was to big a Calibre for fox and was only to be used for deer. I basically backtracked and apologised but I have never heard of this before., is it true? Alsone 789
Bullsh*t. Refer her to the Home Office Good Reason List contained in the Firearms Guidance and also s.13.25: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/518193/Guidance_on_Firearms_Licensing_Law_April_2016_v20.pdf Fox 13.25 .......if applicants wish to use one rifle for shooting both deer and foxes, they may choose a rifle in 6mm (.243/.244) or 6.5mm (.264) calibre. The Good Reason Table on page 123 also clearly lists .243 and 6.5mm as Good Reason for Fox. Note this is only a guide and not Law. However, they should be following Home Office recommendations. If you continue to have trouble, contact the BASC as it's best to have someone with more clout to negotiate on your behalf. There are arguments out there but best to let a shooting organisation handle this for you as they should know the best approach. I just hope you are a member. If not, still contact them as whilst they might not fight a case on your behalf, they may still make representations to Devon Police about the Guidelines as it's in the interests of all their members that the Guidance is applied fairly. Baldcoot 2,352
Tripe utter tripe have .243 for AOLQ incl Fox and small Deer and .308 for Boar and Reds and AOLQ ,i,d say 99 % of Uk shooters have a .243 conditioned for fox .55 grain Hornady in .243 is nighty night princess for Fox .Home office guidelines basically state if you have good reason and are a fit and proper person you can have it providing you have adequate security in place and landowner,s permission to shoot them. 2 Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
As various comments above, .243 with a 55/58g V-Max will be counted by many as about the best long range fox combination around. Whilst its down to each region to decide what goes on your FAC, the Home Office Guide and ACPO, etc, should provide some sort of consistency around the country. I see you list Devon under location, are we actually talking D&C Police, whilst all regions commonly throw a wobbly I didn't think D&C were quite as bad as some! Quote Link to post
Allan P 1,152
I spoke with Middlemoor, pretty sure it was just a mistake. I was just a little annoyed with the attitude tbh, the slight snigger in her her voice. Also I shouldn't had backed down but didn't want to ruffle any feathers. Quote Link to post
