FERRET KILLING IN.

Recommended Posts

Well i got myself a jill from a chap that retired, (saves loosing ghengis`s again) took her out this morning to a place where there is a few small burries i can do alone, did 4 burries and ferret killed in everytime.

i was there before day break, and very quiet while setting nets etc. I didnt use the collar here as the ground is full of tree roots.

so had a few long waits.

any way to stop them killing?

How long have you had the ferret as she may be doing this because of change of routine and lifestyle. As Fish says, feed her before you go out but only lightly or she may decide it's siesta time when she's down the bury.

An old timer told me many years ago that he had had this problem and so rigged the ferrets collar with a bell so that the rabbits would know they were coming and bolted easier. Not sure myself but it may be worth atry if you have no luck with other methods. Cheers, D.

i`ve had her about 2 weeks, feed her same stuff as she was on before and handle her daily.i fed her this morning before we went out,i was told to do her teeth (a little drastic.?)

sure i read somewhere about a ferret muzzle.?

You would be better off finding it a good home & forget about using ferrets.

Muzzle would be OK providing she didn't bump into a rat which she possibly will at some stage.

Just a question. Did the person who advised you to do the teeth or put a muzzle on also suggest feeding bread & milk?

FISH: i have a locator but as it is so over grown with trees/roots where i was i didnt take it as i heard they can get hooked up.

MILLET:i have not decided to use a muzzle, was just saying i`d read about them..hoping to get some views on them too.

maltenby: no mate he suggested raw meat and few eggs.

i didn`t say i was going to do any of the above i was just asking for opinions.

If the ferrets what I call a 'killer' then you'll not stop her. Feed her if you like, but she'll still kill.

Best to use that trait to your advantage; get yourself a locator kit and use her on what you believe to be not quite so deep, open warrens - ferret in, get a mark, dig and pull the rabbit from the hat.

As for muzzles or taking off the teeth forget it!

Incidentally, not all ferrets were fed on bread and milk a few years ago
