A Lot Of Babies

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, hope you are all doing well.
I headed out to check out a new spot on Saturday not too far from home about an hour up the road. I knew it was going to be a warm one and my time would be limited,
I grabbed a couple of ferrets the dogs and a few purse nets and off I went. I stopped picked up the keys to the gate had a quick chat to Dave (the owner) he made a couple of suggestions which direction to head.
First thing I noticed was how beautiful the view was, next was how long the grass was in the direction I needed to go, better keep a look out for snakes. As I walked up the hill I could see a few rabbits go to ground on a fence line, down went the nets, in went the ferrets.
For the first hour all I could here was babies squealing one after another not one bolted, I had a buck in and thought he will make short work of these, was I wrong! I persisted with that set and tried another couple of sets the end result was 1 full grown, a few kits and only god knows how many killed underground.
After deciding to give it a miss and take a walk before it got to hot, the good news is plenty of rabbits about, and a fair few sets, so I will go back soon
Even when I don’t catch many, I always enjoy getting out with the dogs and the ferrets, I never seem to tire of it, and doubt I ever will. A.T.B – Doug

Fair call "be careful or stay home" i should have listened to the latter..That little voice that says oh SHT is that another brown snake.Went out today down gippsland way and layed around 20 purse nets saw half a dozen browns pulled up and went home i don't mind them that much but when you see that many don't fancy grabbing a ferret out of a dark hole :icon_eek:

Nice ground still jealous as hell, all I seem to be getting at the moment is cutting in on black thorn, brambles and stingers. The wire fence always a problem when single handed. I know what you mean when you say nice just to be out there regardless of the score, also like the way you call you ferret.

That fence is particularly bad it has an extra strand of barb on the top and hard to hold down, I wear old cloths when out always getting them ripped. Took a walk plenty of sets there right out in the open I’ll get them on Tuesday, tomorrow heading out to another place with plenty on it some good weather days coming up this week.
