Robert hasselhoff 137
CG ive had both mate, had a 77 carbine that was a cracking gun. Only downside was a bit fiddly to load in dark in a spinney if you get my drift. The break barrels I found much easier and quicker, but both cracking guns build wise and reliability. gamerooster 1,179
As a whole, underlevers are more accurate but I find springers better in the field, lighter and easier to load in the dark..... but hell what do I know, I'm shooting a tx200 lol Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Both excellent rifles mate, but what calibre are you wanting? The in .177 can be very snappy, the problem is the was never really meant to run at sub 12ftlb levels, and performs much better at fac levels, however, you can get a short stroke kit for them from Tinbum tuning, this will speed up the lock time and tame some of the recoil, both rifles are very easy to work on,so really it boils down to break barrel or underlever, break barells are every bit as accurate as underlevers mate, especially a quality rifle with a good breach lock up system. 1 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
I have both HW80 in .22 and a .22 HW77. If I had to buy both again, I'd happily spend the money on both again. These two are among the very best air rifles of all time, ever made. Both are absolutely beautiful, superbly well made, as accurate as you can be and utterly reliable. I would never be without my two here. My HW80 is 18 years old on my FAC, as clean, sweet and, thanks to my pal Mac' here, the original stock has been refurbished to better than it was brand new and the rifle hits how it should be. HARD, ACURATE AND FAST. Easily the best break barrel spring air rifle of all time in my book. But I reckon from experience of sub-12 ft/lb guns the HW77 is the finest spring air rifle of the lot. Every bits accurate as my AIRTECH/Daystate Regal .177 and that PCP is single hole pellet accurate! Don't bother with a silencer it will not hush muzzle blast by much as worth anything and it will only add more unecessary length to the barrel. And anyway, you can't silence the action of firing the piston and spring in the cylinder. Nor of the pellet thacking a rabbit's skull! If all you want is a Match Target accurate spring air rifle you can do any kind of shooting with, either of these superguns will fit the bill and give a you a gun you'd be proud of. ATB.
