Recommended Posts

i got this pup from lurcherman887 last week, its a 6 month old russell x sprocker and works great, not going into thick cover yet but works realy well, recal is good and he's silent in the kennel,

He marked 4 warrens this morning, all were holding rabbits and we tried some he didnt mark and none were in, the pup is spot on with the ferrets and didnt batt an eyelid at sheep or poneys in the field, caught 9 in total and 2 slipped the net,

cheers kev

I think for ferreting you only need a little marking dog. You can cover all the bases with various types of nets so you won't miss many. ANy you do the dog can get its snout down and find to ground again.

I only got a lurcher because its nice to be able to lamp during the week where as a terrier type would only see work at weekends

Terry, I think you hit the nail on the head there. I'm beginning to think that in many situations having a lurcher covering a warren is almost being over-gunned. Like you, I haven't got the luxury of big open ground buries, and have to rough it, so a little cross-bred marking dog sat in the thick of a hedge waiting for that bolter that run's the top of the hedge is just what I need, and nowadays there is such a choice of purpose bred litters there's something for all tastes.

very trued spoiled for choice now a days with a multitude of crosses out there and thanks to the web being able to connect with folks all over to source what you want. I think napper has just the ticket there and look forward to its progress
