Had A Right Result Last Night

Recommended Posts

We popped out to the new permission for 8pm to try to get some time in before the moon came up.

We headed straight for the grain silos to clear out a few rats. Most of them were up on the metal frame.

The Super 10 and, my mates S510 did well...... the far side and the back of the concrete base of the silos fall away to a 5ft wet ditch, full of brambles. A lot of the rats fell in there.

As soon as we started shooting them, they went nuts - running all over the place and knocking each other off the silos.

I got one that ran straight toward me :o The .22 hit it with real authority and, it came to a rolling stop.

The last one that my mate shot was sat right on the top of the silo watching us. It must have dropped 40ft, landing with a right wallop.

Just as we were about to move on, a vehicle slowed by the gate, reversed up and, drove up to the gate.

I thought 'here we go, this is going to be a pain in the arse'. I flicked on the safety, put the rifle down and walked over, ready to tell someone that I have written permission so, do one.

I thought, be nice, so I said hello. The bloke asked if we were shooting rats and enquied how it was going.

It turned out that he was a decent chap - a young farmer type.

He'd stopped to ask if we'd mind shooting rats for him. He's got a pig farm 2-3 miles from my house

He said there's loads of them, they're on the ground, in the pens, up the trees. His terrier kills a few but, there's too many for it to make a dent.

He gave me his card and invited me round for a look. Result!

We headed off to the lake for a look round the polytunnels - it's always nice to get a rabbit or 2 for the old girl that owns the place if we can.

We only saw one in among the veg. My mate stalked over to it and took the shot from a fence post. I saw it flip and land but, could we find the bloody thing??? We spent around 15mins looking for it but, it must have evaporated

By now the moon was up well and truly and, we were casting big shadows so, we called it a night.

Nice one Jon, I would love a rat perm, sooner have that than a rabbit perm to be honest.

Phil

Really?

I'd rather have a rabbit perm. I like being able to eat what I shoot

Chuck a rifle and your Viper in that posh camper and come down mate

I am going to get some .22 when the FAC comes through, just out of curiosity.

I shoot rabbits because the farmer wants to reduce their numbers and that is all. Nobody I know eats them so mine are left for the foxes. Give me a healthy plague of rats, sport for kings and I would be a happy ole tart.
