Deerhunter Montana.

Recommended Posts

Iv got one had it for years, real comfy and keeps you warm and dry but the material is like fleece so it's less noisy but with a removable waterproof layer underneath so the fleece stays wet until you dry it.

Good jacket imo

If they are anything like the trousers you will cook !

They to warm wilf.

You can take out the internal layers so not as bad as the trousers which I also have, I save them for the coldest days tho as your right they are warm.

Do you keep the internal layer out on cold days or keep it in.

I hate being to warm a little chill on the body keeps the energy up.

the jacket weighs double on a wet day...it soaks it up rather than deflects it after a couple of washes..even when you use all the best gear recommended for washing and proofing etc.. the inner layer keeps you dry.... until that perishes and becomes useless..I even got a replacement lining for mine..but eventually with ear and tear of ferreting and general mooching it has also started to wear and start to perish at the seems etc . the good thing is you get 3 layers with the jacket including the fleece liner...its bloody roasting, but on a seriously cold freezing day up on the high moors it has kept me warm and dry...but the weight when it rains is not acceptable...lol.. trousers are great at 1st but my lining has also persished and the trousers have stitching at seems that has now come undone and theres ripps and nicks all over them from the brambles..even them stinging thistles get you through the trousers with the lining in...lol.. In my honest opinion..great for maybe a posh chap who stands about shooting etc etc..but fekking useless for grafting.

Tried the lot mate..from wax to the hikers gear and all in between... its all bollox and none of it is 100% reliable..nowt can hack the hawthorns and hard bramble patches and don't get me started on the barb wire fences.. one day someone will make some pants with re-enforced gussits and you'll safely get over the barbs without ripping yer sack off etc etc.. but nothing is designed for that instance as far as i know...lol.

I find the best stuff is simple multiple layers of breathable gear.. I wear the deerhunter coat, but nowadays i put a proper waterproof layer on top when its serious rain... I also wear the sealand keeper gear and thats not bad until it starts to really get heavy rain.. I pop a cheap pair of waterproof over trousers over the top of my decent gear and it works quite well..last year I went through 2 pairs of cheap over trousers at £10 each.. so now my expensive gear is lasting longer..

This year i've treated myself to a set of Dickies all weather trousers/jacket...its quite thick and obviously better quality that the cheap kagool material type gear, its slightly rubberized if that makes sense..its what the farmers wear when they're milking etc etc,,So I'm hopin that it outlast the cheap stuff... it was about £50 for the lot...so I'm not worried...SO far so good.

I had one if these till it got nicked, discontinued now by the look but it was the daddy of all coats......indistructable, completely wind proof (even in January riding in the back of a pick up all night) and 100% water proof

Best money I ever spent.
