Birds And Dogs

Recommended Posts

As trenchfoot says, Hunting Act only applies to mammals. But it's illegal to kill game birds after sunset, so pheasant would definitely be a no-no. Canada goose isn't a game bird and is also now on the general licence, so if you can prove you're meeting the conditions of the general licence it's definitely legal to kill them at any time of day. But I must admit I'm not certain if using a dog to do so falls within its scope.

Thanks for the ifno guys ill just have to see how i feel on the night lol

If your dog was off the lead legally hunting rabbit on permission and he accidentally caught a bird then it wouldn't be illegal because you didn't intend to kill the bird.

Doesn't work when not on permission though because they take you to court for having a dog dangerously out of control. So someone told me anyway ?
