Jonjon79 13,358
Went out to the rugby club for a couple of hours last night. The conditions we're near perfect - very dark and very little wind. I spotted the back of a couple of rabbits just in time to see them disappear into the long grass. I also saw a couple of foxes at the far end so, I knew there'd be nothing going on down there. Eventually, I found my first one in longish grass, up a bank. I walked toward it, keeping a padded goal post between us for cover. When I got there, I put my cheapo shooting stick next to the goal post and rested my rifle. The rabbit was around 40yrds. I could only see it's eye and ears but, it was still so, I took the shot. There's a lot of crap in that top corner - old goals, bricks, timber. From the noise the pellet made, I thought I'd missed it. When I got there, I found 1 dead rabbit - it was a perfect hit, just back from the eye. The pellet had exited low on the other side of the head and hit some of the rubbish. We carried on for a while and, I eventually ended up back at the same place. This time I stood on the bank and had a scan through the fence, onto the archery field. Just on the edge of the trees was another rabbit. As long as you're not too close to this fence, you can look through with NV. I lined up on this one and fired. The shot was good - there was the unmistakable sound of a JSB Heavy hitting fur and skull. I was 26 paces from the fence, the rabbit was 7 paces away on the other side so, I reckon, 25 - 30yrds. Because of the foxes being around, I went straight over the fence to retrieve it. I hung both rabbits on the fence for a while, while we carried on around the top pitches. I like to travel light when hunting (no bag) so, when we'd finished at the top, I hung the rabbits off the button on the breast pocket of my jacket while we had a last look round the bottom pitch. I saw another disappear into the trees but, that was it for the night ......... 2 rabbits from 2 shots - I'm happy with that 4 Quote Link to post

I was impressed with the built in rangefinder He did say not to invite you down because you'd scare all the rabbits away with your feckin torch But, now that you've joined the 21st century with some NV, I guess it would be ok 2 Quote Link to post
