Yes mate i like to make a lot of my own gear. O pic some i made, some bought, I make my own fly's also and rabbiting gear.

My wee guys only 11 and I let him read the fishing section as he's fishing daft after reading ur wee posts he's now wanting to order one off everything ur saying lol

Used taz devils a few times over the years, not caught much on them, no confidence in them. can't beat a mepp or 30mm rapala for trout.

Thanks very much mate, all tips welcome, got meself a couple of number 1 agila mepps, some worms, a few lightweight leads, an a wee brown fly.

The water im fishing is probably 20 plus feet depth, so I need to learn how to find the fish, ive tried calling here fishy fishy, but no response lol

Have you tried a gill net with a good dept of drop line on it and about 40yds in width in a nice place out of sight from the human eye,lol you could fill your frezzer in the 1 go.

Funny enough I know a few lads that were caught just other week for it lad, havent seen many of the ( gang) with badges around yet, but the c**ts are about apparently.:)

Had a look out this morning for a hour, had 2 trout best one about a pound. Both returned, got on a small flying condom fished upstream, these are just about 2" long very light, fished a number 2 mepp but was catching the rocky bottom a bit to often, these little condoms were just the right weight for the conditions, i never had a number 1 mepp in my pocket.

Caught a few wild brownies earlier in season on the smaller 7g models. Blue/silver supposedly good for sea trout. If your just starting out I would stick with mepps catcher more fish than any other lure world wide. But you have to match the size and the colour of the mepps to the river and weather conditions. Generally cold water(early season) silver mepps, warm water(mid summer) small copper or black mepps and remember trout will be in faster flowing parts of the river in summer (water more oxygenate) and slower deeper pools in the colder months (water tends to be warmer). Good luck and tight line

You can buy the bits to make your own but there is that many people sells them you can pick them up cheap enough. As said the little 7g ones are good for trout, i sometimes put a buck hair body on , you can buy them called flying prawns.

Fella out of Mchardy's is ok to deal with and he makes good stuff.

As you see he sells small ones, i make my own but you wonder if it is worth it time you buy the components. As you see he does bulk prices, best buy stuff with a few mates and get a far better price. Thing with condoms and the like, you need to put them together right so the blade works right, seen some that would not spin right. John Park i think his name is will have anything he does done right that is for sure.

I finding it difficult in getting distance on the cast, with the small mepps, is there any way to add weight to them lads, thanks for the info, much appreciated

You want braid mate, i often use 8 or 10lb braid when fishing repps and a soft rod. I always fish as light as i dare to suit conditions, casts better presents bait better on light gear. I sometimes use 4lb braid.

I use berkley as well but the fireline crystal and also cortland master braid, i think when you are using light mono or braid it is better on a light rod, you would probably be using a light rod anyway for casting small baits. I like ultralite set ups for trout fishing. I have picked up some nice salmon and sea trout, fishing with my ultralite set up for trout. Nice pike by the way mate.
