In the poll question I did put "APART FROM THE ENDANGERED BREEDS" due to breeding programs etc..... FFS :wallbash:

So with that in mind Jackknife & LenM would you vote no?

Didn't see that bit at the top but my answer is still yes

Not all the animals are rare, and most that are couldn't survive in the wild, never mind having seen it.

Why couldnt they survive in the wild?

How would you teach an old Tiger with epilepsy to hunt in the wild?

Youd have to give a relative a carers allowance to look after it, probably qualify for a tidy motability car aswell

I don't think there is a place for zoos purely as a curiosity attraction.........however I do think there is always a place for dancing monkeys and bears !

It really depend on what type of zoo or rescue centre you are talking about. I have no problems with places like safari parks, where animals get to actually live as near as they would in the wild as possible. I watched a program last week, about Orangutans and it is a possibility that within 20 years the only ones left on the planet will be captive bred ones, that is how fast the deforestation of Sumatra and Borneo is happening.

Devils advocate here now. Would it be better for them to die out or live in artificial circumstances which actually caters for their every need?

If your judging zoos through the eyes of a human then I can see no problem. If you start thinking like the animal then your slightly off your rocker.

You've no idea if a Zebra would rather have less room to roam or be glad that nothing was coming to eat it every minute of every day.
