Its a public vote, I think that means people will see which way you voted.

Is their a need in the modern world.

With excellent footage of all animals in zoos in their natural enviroment & the ease (although expense) of tourismn do we need to go and see a silverback in zoo?

I watched a documentary recently about killer whales in ocean parks loosing the plot and killing or injury their keepers.

Yes defo, as it's a place to see the so called endangered species of the world, which helps educating the future generations towards preserving breeds and general land management, also to help reintroduction programmes from captivity to the wild as feeder stock

yes mate, but that blackfish was an animal right loonybin who stitched up sea world, who may I add never took the whales from captivity, it was ocean world that did it and where the so called neglect footage was taken from, sea world then bought the whales from them, and il speak from experience we were in sea world a couple of months ago and those whales have a very healthy active stimulated life there. Also sea world rescues and relocates thousands of marine animals every year and work along with the worlds top scientists for the preservation of orca whales. So the antis scored an own goal there, as Joe public believed every lie that film told. So they have stopped their breeding programme, but how can you release captive human imprinted killer whales into the wild again????? They'd last about a week then be shot dead.

In the poll question I did put "APART FROM THE ENDANGERED BREEDS" due to breeding programs etc..... FFS :wallbash:

So with that in mind Jackknife & LenM would you vote no?

Seen a couple of really bad "Zoo's" that didnt really quailfy for the title, just pissed off looking animals in dirty cages, poor representations and tatty images of the animals that grace our screens in HD,normal zoos just for public viewing?I think apart from endangered species breeding most have had their day.

Yes, most kids will only see rare and big animals in cages at zoo's, these are the next generation of inspired conservationists.

See what your thinking, but watching an Attleborough documentary of beasts in their fully natural enviroment is surely more inspiring than watching a tiger pace up and down railings? In mind anyway.

A trip to the zoo is gawping at a collection of wild animals.

I always enjoy the reptiles and insects more than the mammals in zoos I enjoy the big fish tanks also. most of the herding species don't seem to suffer from captivity but imo the more intelligent species do suffer so maybe it's not a case of should there be zoo's or not but what type of zoo is acceptable as I think there will always be a place for good zoos . there's a lot of difference from being face to face with a animal rather than seeing it on tv ...it would be a shame to loose that experience for kids.

I don't know how many people have been to Banham Zoo? There is, or was a Tiger that suffered from Epilepsy, it's given all the epilim it needs and is well looked after, it's a nice well looked after Zoo, and the falconry is some thing else.

Not all the animals are rare, and most that are couldn't survive in the wild, never mind having seen it.

Why couldnt they survive in the wild?

How would you teach an old Tiger with epilepsy to hunt in the wild?
