kyboy44 11
OK fist let me say be in the u.s we don't have to go by the same laws a lot of you all do but I wanted to see what one's that work with running dogs thought about this idea that keep working on my head I live in a place with a lot of trees. And cover but it has a lot of open space to so I was thinking what if you use a game caller or bait to bring out the game to the dog the only problem I can see is the dog be able to get to the game before it gets to COVER the opening can be anywhere from 10-20 feet to a 100 yard's or so what would you all day sounds like It could work or have I lost it Quote Link to post
low plains drifter 11,118
Could you not get a bushing dog/dogs to work the cover and flush quarry for the running dogs, and what are you hunting out there ? 2 Quote Link to post
TOM HEAVY 140
clearly you have gone nuts mate 1 Quote Link to post
stagmad 91
I often call foxes out of cover for a running dog. No different to calling them in to a rifle. gotta do a bit of work with the dog to get them to sit quietly. Quote Link to post
Haiddheliwr 1,911
See no problem personally in doing that but as low plains drifter says have a bushing dog working in conjunction with your running dog. Quote Link to post
stagmad 91
I have quite a few of what you fellas call "bushing dogs" and i hunt 99 % of the time with these and running dogs, It's good to go out every now and again with just one catch dog and do a bit of one on one with them. If ya don't have "bushing" dogs it would be an effective way of getting a few, especially those light shy ones that have been chased before. I only go in the daylight, the last couple of hours before dark usually. Quote Link to post
kyboy44 11
Thanks boys maybe I am not as crazy as I thought mostly we hunt coyote fox and bobcat I have looked at bushing dogs and could not find any that I flet like would not have a good chance of getting killed. Mostly by the coyote the only thing I have not been able to figure out if the dogs could have the speed to get one before it makes it back to COVER Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
Callers are a good way to get game coming to you ,mainly do it when lamping. Give it a go you never know. Quote Link to post

kyboy44 11
He from the Weston put of the u.s were land is more open I am from the south eastern u.s were we have more cover the only thing I am trying to find out is if sight hounds would have the speed to be on one before they lost it in cover Quote Link to post
kyboy44 11
I am thinking that a greyhound would be the fastest one that I have read about but they look like the bread that gives out the fastest and most likely to get hurt on hard game so maybe I should look at. A greyhound x Quote Link to post
Qbgrey 4,253
I think they reach cover before caught.and I personally don't want my dogs coursing threw wooded ground.it will end in tears Quote Link to post
