Hotrods Ratrods

Recommended Posts

hi, anyone else like hot rods/rat rods,iv'e always loved them from a young age, i like the hot rods as much as the rat rods, with the hot rods it's the beautiful paint work, the style, and most of all that lovely big engine poking through the bonnet, or no bonnet just a big horse powered v8 motor, it's the same with a rat rod apart from the flashy paint job and a few dents but i find them as equally appealing, the whole custom looks of car and especially the trucks, iv'e always loved big engines and big cars/trucks, and never been one for fuel economy, my fathering law and i use to get on like a house on fire as he use to build top fuel dragster engines, the ones he did were close too 7000 hp and used around 18 gallons of methanol in a quarter mile, and the fuel lines were 2 inches round, super, super fast, anyone else into the big boys toys......lol as they say......lol

Im not a fan of the big yank tanks myself but i must admit i do love the sound of a big lazy v8 an old boy who lives a few miles from me collects them he,s doing a rat rod project at the moment a 1930,s Ford Model A its in a thousand pieces at the moment but every time i pass by he gives me the old " look worse before it looks better " statement :D ......i drove a big Pontiac Firebird thing around for a few weeks as a youngster ended up taking out a telephone box :icon_redface: the back end just slid out was lucky i didnt kill anyone....it was a left hooker and worthless by the time id finished with it but some piece of machinery......i like a bit more of a refined motor these days but i never get tired of hearing that deep aggressive rumbling of a Mustang or Chevy.

Got an old school mate that lives in the next road to me,he had a hotrod.

It was in that famous hotrod magazine and he used to take it to events.

It was an old escort with a monster engine.

Had them wheely bars fitted to stop it flipping.

Never been into cars myself.

Apart from the stock car racing,

That was fun.

Im more of a speedway fan even though ive never riden a bike in my life.

My fav is the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.9 V8 with a bolt on supercharger. Looks standard until you race one at the lights, This Jeep would accelerate 0-60 mph in 7.6 sec and a quarter mile in 15.8 sec. And that's without the added supercharger! Then your looking at 0-60 mph of under 6 sec and low 14 sec quarter mile! My 4.0lt Grand Cherokee still manages 0-60 in 8 sec!

yeah mate there not everyone's cup of tea, but you described it perfectly about that deep aggressive rumble for me, the guy near you doing a rat rod should end up looking pretty impressive you will hear it before you see it.....lol they have custom shows here in the local pub car park, and you wonna see the time, effort and money that goes into them, its outstanding what they end up looking like, and when it comes time for them to leave and they start, starting there engines, its like a massive rumbling under your feet, that v8 heavenly sound.

that old escort sounds nice to me, my wife's friend use to have a racing mg metro which had a 6.0 litre chevy in it with wheelie bars on it, talking of speedway my brother had what it took to go all the way as a pro, he had a few signing offers, but never did and just walked away,i remember my dad was so disappointed at his choice as he was so good at it,

there pretty good them cherokee jeeps, and fast enough by the sounds of it, my brothers mate use to have a jaguar (sovereign model shape one) which had a 6.6 gensen interceptor blue printed engine, you heard him coming down our street, he had everything done to that engine but kept the exterior plainish but lowered it with good wheels and tyres, and in the end it got up to 200 mph on the drag strip, a sheep in wolves clothing......lol the last time i spoke to him i asked him what happened to that jag you had, and he said hes still got it but it just sits in a barn now, gathering dust, shame really,

i could live with them being black....yellow.....bright green.....white....purple......lol any colour does it for me really, even rat rod rust...lol...there's a guy not to far from me that's doing a 1930's ford truck, hes done most of it and it looks a beauty, just the paint to go, he drives it round and the cab and front is bright yellow and the back is grey primer at the mo, so hes nearly there.......lol
