Spanial Terrier Mix On Rats

I have been thinking about getting a cocker Spanial to bush beside my terrier now for some time but recently I landed my self a few farms for ratting.

So my question is do anyone on here use a Spanial on rats or a Spanial terrier mix or am I better off with another terrier but at the same time I don't want something that will drop to ground like my Lakeland terrier has a few times now

a lads spaniel was present when a terrier team came to clear rats around pheasant pens I was gobsmacked at its ferocity on rats and boy what a "marker" I use spaniels myself and both are very soft mouthed but one caught a squirrel and although he got bitten he dispatched it like a seasoned terrier lol

Every spaniel I have known that was given the chance to kill rats has killed them just as passionately as any terrier.

I wouldn't worry about the spaniel in the breeding negatively affecting things.

That was my only concern I havnt seen a great deal or spaniels work but from what I have seen they were non stop working

If you don't want another terrier then just about any other working type dog will kill rats. When I no longer did much with terriers but still wanted to go ratting I started using my Gwp bred lurcher and later my pure Gwp. I had just as much fun and now wish I'd always taken the bigger dogs. Out lamping rats my lurcher would get to rats running down byers and barns before the terriers got there. Alongside streams etc they would stand in the water snatching rats as they bolted whilst the terriers did the same in the surrounding cover. I loved it and wish I had the same ratting now.

The best ratters are terriers, few terriers drop to ground on rats  ,if you want a bushing companion that rats id source another terrier,if you want a busher that will not drop in id source a beagle type,if you want the best of both worlds id own 1 of each.

I have two lurchers that will kill rats both whippet saturated dogs the older of the two kills the most rats out of every dog we rat with even terriers but I could do with another mooching ratting dog to run in my pack I have been looking into Plummer terriers the last week or two but people ask daft money for them and there seems to be some sort of little click in the Plummer terrier world and they talk a lot of shit so I have found
