Little Sod

Recommended Posts

I recently did a swap job with Mr caller, his 99 in .22 (even though it has 50 stamped on the barrel, pretty much the same thing) for my PS. Firstly it was good to meet another member.

Second, this little sod is an absolute gem. Other than being pretty much brand spank aesthetically... When I got it home, I stripped it, and as he said in his description, it was indeed carrying some artillery, everything was at a mirror finish and uber clean, I added a touch of my own grease, dropped in what was a super snug v-Mach sleeve, and built it back together. I've put on my own rimmie mod to take its length down a bit and dropped on my UL.

Took it out this evening for pretty much just a plink at some trees, getting to know each other and all that and I have to say that I can see what all the fuss is about. I thought that we wouldn't get on to well as its rather light compared to what I'm used too, but it's so well balanced and I was hitting pretty much everything I aimed at just off hand. I can only imagine what the SFS imp might be like, but for now my own rifle will do. I can see us getting on just fine and before I got off home I dropped this bird with a head shot, unknown distance, but a mil dot of hold over.

I know it's a hunting image (apologies for the gore), but it's not my point more so the rifle, but admins feel free to move if need be.

Factory spring, just finished properly  I tried a Maccari spring in it when I tuned it,but way too harsh a firing cycle, for anyone considering tuning a 99 dont waste too much effort on pre-load washers to get the power up, I have done two now a .177 and a .22 and adding washers does 99% of fu*k all, a de-burr, de-grease, super polish, and a change of piston washer, (Vortek) does the business, glad you like it Rez, I knew you would, the prosport is now stripped, de-greased, a top hat added and some dri-slide applied, its now running at a mega consistent, like 4fps variance, 11.7ftlbs and only a very slight increase in recoil, but still super smooth, which suits my kind of springer shooting, Rez a quick question, did you de grease the spring, before adding, I assume moly grease? I ask because its lubed with Ultimox 226, which does not like being mixed with moly, I like to run springers on the bare amount of lube, as does Tony at sfs, and I share his opinion on a spring only needing enough lube to stop it rusting, and for me ptfe dri-slide on the piston cant be beaten.
