mark williams 7,568
I was recently drooling over the rabbit population in Annan, Scotland on one of my camping trips, I asked about shooting and was asked do i have an English shotgun certificate of which i do. I was told in that case i can shoot a sub/12 ft lb air rifle in Scotland with the land owners permission. Is this correct lads please ? Quote Link to post
Rez 4,961
Pasted from BASC mate... I know you dont live in Scotland, so there may be a flaw here but its as close as I could find. 7. I live in Scotland and already have a Shot Gun Certificate/Firearms Certificate. Do I need to apply for another licence for my air rifle? Yes. However, those with an existing certificate would not need to apply for an airgun licence until their existing certificate/s expires. When renewing your existing Shot Gun or Firearms Certificate you would then be expected to apply for an airgun licence. BASC tried to amend the Bill to exempt existing certificate holders but this was not accepted. 1 Quote Link to post

Rimfireboy! 1,463
A daft law based on prejudice, won't achieve anything IMO. They're determined to push it through, no matter that it doesn't serve any useful purpose. When it comes into force, it'll mean that if you live in Scotland it will be easier to get a shotgun certificate than one for a sub 12 ft lb air gun. If all the people that would've been satisfied with an air gun, then decide that they may as well have a shotgun instead, it'll serve them right. Quote Link to post
Coypu Hunter 486
I think it was in 1994 that the law changed in France. Prior to that, you could buy a shotgun or 22LR without declaring it to the local authorities. Post 1994, all purchases are automatically declared, and all owners of those guns are legally obliged to register them. If the rural French don't see the point of a law made in Paris, they simply ignore it. I suspect that there will be thousands of unregistered air rifles in Scotland in the near future, just as there are thousand of unregistered firearms now in France. After all, it's not like you need to gun license buy pellets... If I were living in Scotland, there's no way I'd be registering my air rifles, just because some Edinburgh-based ginger slapper with a face like a smacked arse doesn't like the freedom they represent... 4 Quote Link to post
