Woodie From The Garden

Well nothing much to report folks just an oppurtunist shot in the back garden. This fella was helping himself to the seed put out for the wee birds and there seem to be plenty about so I had him. About 15yds with the prosport and 7.9 accupels.

Cheers lads. Only problem now is I've spotted two squizzers eyeing up the feeder. What a shame!

It is ok mate, just more of a risk of the pellet leaving the property, and the neighbours not liking the fact your shooting birds. As long as you don't bait the pigeons down... Which one could argue you have with your seed feeder, but your point is made with it intended for other smaller birds.

Thanks rez- I think I'll probably not shoot over the garden again though. It's not a big garden and the neighbours are close so probably best off playing it safe, although the tree rats will have to be dealt with one way or another

I was under the impression you can only shoot wood pigeons if they are eating your crops I cannot see how it is ok to shoot wood pigeons flying over stubble or say a dairy farm with a shot gun there are no crops to defend , but it seems people do .

shoot them most days in garden,when there after the greens. also had 9 magpies in the last month. put a magpie decoy out the other week and one came straight in, his mates all started coming to the morning to see him off. so was total of four in about two mins.

I never mentioned but upon dressing it had a crop full of small fruits, they looked like mini apples some were ripe red others green, about 1cm diameter any ideas? Was thinking perhaps whitebeam berries?

Woodies in my garden are enjoying the horn thorn berries..

 

I'd be able to crack off woodies and magpies in mine but also don't think it's worth it..

 

Once it's been dressed looks a nice clean bird mate. .
