Hi gnash , she had 1 nest of 3 eggs all 3 hatched but I think only 1 chick was fed but it had to be culled as it dislocated it's leg ( I bought alpaca fleece for nesting material which twisted around the leg ) i left this nest alone , this nest i replaced with dummy eggs nest had 4 chicks but again I don't think all were fed equally 2 died before feathering up 1 was nearly fully feathered fine one day begging with the other next day gone , they had egg food , cucumber and cress as well as seed , think they just might be a bad parents , or were too young

Its a shame when that happens ive had a few die where it was just obvious from the start that stronger chicks were getting the majority i dont know how you can stop that.....i guess experienced parents would make sure all the chicks get fed ? but what can you do.......shame that mate sounds like you did your bit but luck just wasnt with you.

Hopefully they will be better next time , going to try breeding cages next year , get the other shed insulated and lined , put some lighting in and see what happens , just like seeing them flying around the flight but the breeding cages might be the way to go .

would love to see a pic david

If you know the parents are not solid with a full clutch, leave two of the dummy eggs in and leave the hen with only the two eggs to look after, and sneak the other two under canary foster hen
