pianoman 3,589
Excellent rifle Mac , I really love these guns mate. Reliable, superbly accurate, easy to work on. You can't beat them. I won't trade mine for any amount of money. Irreplaceable to me and too many priceless memories from years of hunting with it. As good as the day I bought it 18 years ago this September. And it's a .22! ATB Simon 2 Quote Link to post
Dr B 186
Hey Bigmac Great choice. Rifle or carbine? No argument from me on the calibre, .22 all the way . I've owned a HW80 rifle in ,22 in the past, it was the first real hunting rifle I purchased for myself (after having borrowed a Webley Vulcan from my father for a while). It was awesome. Far better than I was back then. Deadly accurate and strong as a tank. I had to sell it to pay for University......shame, broke my heart. Back then, there were no issues with tuning them straight away as they were well made, maintained, and plenty of lube on them. I think mine was a MK II as it had a rounder nose on the nose of the stock (the MK I have a sharp angle end to it). I've no idea what version they are up to these days. They are the stuff of legend. Someone once told me they were just a FAC de-tuned rifle and thus, not as refined as a gun intended for 12ft-lbs. I never really noticed any problem and I don't remember the rabbit / mink complaining either. I'm sure Simon (Pianoman) will know the heritage of the HW80..... 1 Quote Link to post

VWman 232
Hello bigmac In all my recent looking and trying out at gun shops the HW80k was recommended to me and a large part of me wanted to buy one but I was all wrapped up in underlevers so got the hw 77 but I know the hw80 would have been a good choice for me. originally designed in conjunction with Dr Robert Beeman as a Manum gun putting out 24ftlbs in .22, 1 3/8 diameter and almost 13 inches long giving a good swept volume and in 12ftlbs form is not working very hard so it was said that it would last and last. my next one will be a light hw but the one after that could well be an , I think more is good. Happy new gun bigmac. 1 Quote Link to post

charlie caller 3,654
Cracking rifle mate, shame about the crap calibre tuned and fettled, it will be very smooth in .22 I have to say, I might be inclined to get the Welsh Willy tuning kit for it, I had one brand new .177 of course, when they first came out, bloody hell is it that long ago , nothing and I mean nothing my mates had came close, in fact the only thing that could touch it was my tuned BSF b55 bavaria, which Mac was a .22 lol. I would be interested to see how easy the trigger block is to unscrew, as I have heard recently they seem to be locktighting them on, and you are having to apply so much heat that it melts the spring guide. 1 Quote Link to post
