man o kent 269
Hoping to persuade the good lady to let me disappear to Wales for a couple of days this summer, hopefully to catch a sea trout. Would anyone have any suggestions as a good place to go? Not looking for a monster, just a small river to cast a fly at night Quote Link to post

AThomas 32
Which part of wales were you thinking of. I know Gwilym, and he's based right on the Welsh Dee ( North Wales) you could do sea trout, salmon, grayling and brown trout in a day. Quote Link to post
man o kent 269
I'm open to suggestions! Quote Link to post
AThomas 32
The South Wales rivers,Teifi,Towy,Dyfi etc are big,and can be quite intimidating, not to mention dangerous at night, and unless you know someone who fishes it regular, you'll struggle, local knowledge is the key. The Dee is a lot more manageable, but alot of the Clubs don't do day tickets for Sea Trout, even though you'll be fishing at night. I persobally reccomend you try and book with GH,the Dee Valley has loads of lovely Hotels, bnb etc and really is a nice part of Wales. We have a small Lake here on the Island that has a run of sea trout,Llyn Coron. Could coincide with the Bala country fair if you decide on Corwen. http://www.northwalescountryfair.co.uk Where ever you decide,I'd seriously consider the use of a guide/ghillie to set you straight. man o kent 269
I was thinking a guide would be a good option for a novice sea trout/river angler. Thanks again for the useful information gents Quote Link to post
man o kent 269
A smaller more intimate river would be my preferred option Quote Link to post

MIK 4,763
The sea trout numbers have boomed the past few years on the NE of Scotland with some big runs of 2-5lb fish ...I was out today and saw plenty just waiting for the wind to drop and I will be outfor a cast ..... Quote Link to post
