Hello Bill and welcome to the forum..   Well, what are you looking for to start with? Whether you choose a spring powered air rifle or a pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) you will find lots of friendly ad

We tried to, he advertised a left handed Daystate Huntsman, the wife wanted one so we trekked up one a half stuffing hours in the car to find out the Daystate was right handed. The difference is prett

You will not get another offer like rez has offered you so sort it out with him and set a time, and day you both can get down to the range and the lad will help you out no end he is a good lad   Now

Look guys I'm not gay but I'm far from a homophobic however this post has taken an unexpected turn. I've already been looking at upgrading my scope. I don't want to spend any more then 50 but I'll stretch to 100 if required. I need a scope that's good for hunting (as I now have a permission for a field full of rabbits and pheseants) and was looking for you guys help?

No one say,d you were gay mate and the targets that i put up were not a piss take it was put up to show you that you have to be that good before you go and try and kill some thing like i say,d in the post

WITH OUT THINKING

and the gay comments were banter between good friends and trusted members off here and not directed at you

you have had some good advice off some of the lads on hear its up to you to put it to good use or not

and Don't go and shoot any thing yet have a look as paulus has say,d check what is in season

and have a look at the general license at what you are aloud to shoot with an air rifle

And as your thread states you have just started to shoot and dont no much about shooting and with the groups that you are getting i can tell you your NOT READY TO SHOOT LIVE PRAY you need a better set up and you need to practice

We all ready get stick off the ANTYS and all it will take is for some one to see you hit a rabbit in the wrong place and it jump about and a world of shit will come down on you from all sides

And if you think that there is no one around to see you even if your out in the middle of the night just think to your self your there its amazing just how many people are around in the dead of night ask the lads on hear who or how many people they see in the dead of night

And the antys dont wear bright yellow coats there just as camo,d up as us

Congrats on the perm you have done good to get it this early in your shooting life but please do it right and learn how to shoot first

if i lived closer id help you out

take the advice and put it to good use

I wasn't offended with the gay comments I was just messing, the comments clearly arnt aimed at me or towards anyone that I can see in a derogative way. I guess the problem with reading what someone has said rather then seeing them face to face is your unable to see their expression when they say it, but don't worry no offence taken here :-).

I'm away at the moment and a friend from work has text to say she heard I was looking for somewhere to shoot and that I could use her horse field near washingbourough. The scope I got initially isn't good enough for small targets at long range so I was hoping to get some advice on a good one, get it when I get home and practice the hell out of it until around September and then go out for real. I thought I'd rather practice for as long as possible with it before going out and trying to hit something that moves.

I've paid for insurance through BASC but do I need any sort of licence? When looking online I can't see that I need a licence for my rifle even if I am shooting live animals (it will only be rabbits and pheasants) so if I do does anyone know what kind as this is news to me, thanks

Pheasants are out of season at the moment so you cant shoot them yet

and you do not need a license for your air rifle yet but it may come later (hope not)

have a look at some of the hawk range of scopes you should get a set for around the £100 mark new or under if you buy second hand

Or if you push the boat out then have a look at the MTC range but there costly but a cracking start to your kit

general licence is just a guide to what you can and can not shoot just Google it and have a look or look it up on hear

Do your self a faver and start saving for when you do go hunting and get a good set up

any of the hw range of rifles will do

same as Air arms

but they will last a life time and you will not have to worry if there good enough or not there some of the best out there

Bigmac they may be out of season but if the pheasants are carrying out verminous attacks, such as nicking all the begonia seeds from your borders, raiding a grain store etc etc you can legally shoot them (expect lots of crying out here from shotgun boys). That is how my father got started in airgunning back in 1973, a gamekeeper who was selling the pheasant feed to people with hens, a load of released and hungry birds stripping the veg and seeds from his garden and a BSA Meteor from a Kays or Littlewoods catalogue (along with obligatory 4x32mm sight),
