Few Minutes With Flirt Pole

Recommended Posts

I've owned dogs that wouldn't chase a lure as adults and give the exact look you describe lol ... But it's the old nature versus nurture thing again and almost all pups with running dog blood in them will chase something that's fast moving past them on instinct and as I stated its a good tool for pups as an adult if their getting enough work they shouldn't need a flirt pole unless it's just for a bit of fun .........

Little clip of tonight's action I can start to get him a bit more controlled as we go on

Well a mate of mine advised one for a bit of exercise so I gave the dog a treat tonight and it was great fun. The dog was taking a run up and going air born and loved it. Used 10 feet of alkathene pi

You are the dog psychologist you must of seen dogs too intelligent to even bother chasing anything thats not alive ?.......when it comes to conditioning the thick dogs are easy its the super intellig

Got to be honest i cant see the use of a flirt pole with running dogs for anything other than a bit of fun.......flirt pole is not a conditioning tool your not going to get lung power from it they are just a way of bringing up a dogs reflexes and sharpness thats all.

It's a good tool for a lurcher if it's used properly and from a young age ... It promotes subtleness ... strike ... Teaches the dog to twist and turn sharply ... Instils an almost conditioned response to grab something flitting

Past it quickly ... But the dog does need to catch the lure a lot more as a pup when using it on a lurcher to keep the interest there ......

You are the dog psychologist :D you must of seen dogs too intelligent to even bother chasing anything thats not alive ?.......when it comes to conditioning the thick dogs are easy its the super intelligent ones that are hard work......i remember having a few look at me as if to say " f**k off.... what do you think i am stupid "

some of our bulldogs were like that, one male we had would bite anything , he loved hanging off a old tyre lol, but we had bitch that I took out with my lurchers, she was very good with other dogs not like the male. and she seen few rabbits caught, and that was it for her then lol, she only wanted something that was live. some of these bulldogs got good brains on them  , I think she thought she was lurcher lol.

Yep makes sense  ...thats why i wondered if a flirt pole is much good for anything more than a bit of fun......if a dog hasnt got the instinct to chase something your not going to put it there.........a short 5 minutes a day of twisting turning up and under getting the dog off balance was good for the dopey bulldogs i just thought a smart lurcher would be above all that  .......that look they give you is embarrassing makes you feel about 4 foot tall !
