random 659
Hey all,was just wondering how many of you use a fixed mag scope,I have a 4-12x on my gun at present and have it set on 6x mag and I rarely turn it up or down,so do fixed mag offer any advantages or is the option of adjustment better? I'm not after a new scope or anything just wondering... Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
When I used variable mag, I always left them on 7 or 8x. Now all my scopes are fixed 8x or 6x. It's whatever you prefer at the end of the day. Quote Link to post
lllluke1 329
Fixed mag are usually lighter (good if you got a heavy rifle). Usually cheaper. You don't need to worry about working out the differences in mil-dots when changing the mag. Also if you only leave it on one mag, what's the point of having the rest? I got a 4x40 on my TX200 and find it's all I need Quote Link to post
reaper1064 285
Fixed mag can be better in low light as there are less lenses to interfere with light transition to the eye. Quote Link to post
Rez 4,961
Fixed mag for those who like a fixed mag otherwise there isn't any difference. I shoot at 5 and 6x but have variable mag optics. Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,568
Same here, i like to shoot around 7 x 0r 8x but i do use the higher magnification to try and see my shot when checking for zero. Quote Link to post
Newlife2 55
I like the flexibuility of a variable. Like was mentioned for reviewing a shot ,say shooting at 10 and checking the result at 16. Where I have found it very useful is when I go after ferals in the barns or rats, I want a low # , for the lower light conditions plus I am usually shooting no more than 20 yards so the low # is fine, it also provides a wider view at the lower power. Thanks.. Quote Link to post
