MoChara 1,632
Having wild issues with my straw. It's good straw but by god it don't have make me sneeze when working with it. Out bedding sows and weaners this morning and on comes another sneezing fit, that's a week now. whys this happening.? No problems in past, not got hay fever, and it's not old dusty stuff. I'd usually use hay but the sows and boar have took to eating it so useless for bedding purposes. Always had straw though and never bothered me before.! Any ideas or help for my sinuses appreciate

I know people with horses who steam PR soak their hay to get the dust out (horses can get dust allergies apparently) but not really doable for straw bedding.

The Seeker 3,048
you might not think you have hay fever but neither did i till i reached 24 and one summer it just started.. if you don't want to wear a full face mask try a bit of vaseline around the edge of your nose it helps trap the pollen and dust

Born Hunter 17,960
you might not think you have hay fever but neither did i till i reached 24 and one summer it just started.. Exactly the same happened to me. I'd say you've developed hay fever Mo, it's not uncommon at all. I went from perhaps having the very occasional sneeze in spring to suddenly one spring wanting to claw my own eyeballs out.

Born Hunter 17,960
Only antihistamines I found worth the money were Piriton but made me really drowsy. The sporadic sneezing didn't/doesn't bother me and it hasn't affected my sinuses too much, it was the itchy eyes that got me. I itch them red raw! Not so bad this year though for some reason. Usually kicks in late Feb and lasts till June.
MoChara 1,632
Can't be doing with feeling drowsy. I'll let it be for now see if it just stays same. If it gets worse I'll have to do something tho thanks
norseman 424
i would wear a respirator mask anyway, (not the cheap dust masks) does no harm i think. what about farmers lung? is that not caught from hay and straw?
