Pet Insurance Recommendations Please

Recommended Posts

How do, I've keep running dogs for the past 35yrs and never had them insured, lucky to only have had the usual general running injuries, however the last but one lurcher I had at 14 months old he broke his rear leg quite bad jumping a gate, the vet quoted me £1000 for amputation or £2300 for repair and said would probably not be able to work him, at the time just could not afford it, kids, mortgage etc etc. so had him PTS (broke my heart, he was coming on nicely). had a 6 year brake from keeping running dogs, got into ratting instead. However missed the running game so much I got another which is Bryn my now 6 1/2 month old lurcher, I'm defiantly wanting to get him insured, don't want to have to go through that again. Any recommendations for insurers to go with please.

Don't laugh . . . . but Sainsbury's pet insurance is worth looking at.

I'm happy anyway.

That's what we got, Sainsburys Premier... wife was attracted by the Sainsburys vouchers  but you don't receive them 'til 2 months after you take the policy out.

Speak to your vet see which one they recommend, they'll know which companies are most likely to dick you about when it comes time to make a claim.

In my experience most vets recommend PetPlan because they make claiming very easy, vets deal with all the paperwork for you.

Remember all insurance companies seem good until you have to make a claim ;)

Had my dog in

I wonder if this is part of the reason Vet prices have shot up, they rub their hands with glee when you say you've got insurance.

Had my dog in for stitches a few weeks ago and was quoted £150.00 if they could do it while he was awake and £200.00 if they had to knock him out, so

I told them I would put it through my insurance. Picked him up the next day and was told by the young nurse he was as good as gold and they did him awake, and the bill was £225.00,
