Another cracker REW  could almost feel the sun on my back watching that  One small criticism :icon_redface: try keeping the rod tip higher in the air when playing fish, youd be surprised how small a fish can snap hooks/heavy line if it makes a fast run and straightens the rod out, a lesson I learned the hard way... :whistling: Keep em coming ATB Dave

90 degrees to fish when ever possible.

Cant believe Im posting this :icon_redface: ...I would suggest 70~80 degrees,if a fish runs towards you at speed with the rod at 90 degrees you will lose tension quicker resulting in hooks falling out :victory: See ,its easy REW take a protractor  Lee started it :laugh:

cheers guys. I didn't lose many that I can remember. Only using 6lb line and on this I caught my biggest fish that took me 15 mins to get it. It just stayed dead still for ages and I couldn't bully the fish at all. Eventually we got him out with the help of nottzhunter but the fish only just went inside the net. We reckon 15lb in weight that one. Will find the video to show you.

No mate you don't need to apologise, I understand where your coming from dude. I have just watched that video of my biggest fish and it took it a while before it was ready to swim again. Lesson learned. We have a sneaky feeling there must be a pike,20lb or more in this lake. Steve caught a 10 lb fish that had deep bite marks across its body. Could that have been the monster.

A rod is the most efficient when at right angles to the fish(not the water), simple case of physics. It's down to the angler to make up tension when a fish runs at you.

Northern lad you're right about summer time Pike, So many people think that Pike are indestructible when they are quite venerable, especially in the summer.

always land your own fish nothing worse than a over enthusiastic mate jabbing a net at your catch when it aint ready and bumping it off the hook as i found years ago on a double figured carp,my net my fish dont touch lol

nice little vid that

If you watch the top match anglers these days they play the fish with the rod level to the side of them, rather than the rod upright....

used to watch steve ringer do that on carp matches far as i can tell its their method of getting fish to net fast time as its all about the weight in the net to win,iv fished some commercial fisheries where these big matches have taken place and all the carp are parrot mouthed and f****d up due to this method by the so called top anglers, poor practice in my opinion
