One of the very many days spent lure fishing for pike on the boating lake this summer 2014. This time was with a bunch of mates and we camped the night with a few beers. northern lad 2,292 Posted January 4, 2015 Report Share Posted January 4, 2015 Another cracker REW could almost feel the sun on my back watching that One small criticism try keeping the rod tip higher in the air when playing fish,youd be surprised how small a fish can snap hooks/heavy line if it makes a fast run and straightens the rod out, a lesson I learned the hard way... Cant believe Im posting this ...I would suggest 70~ degrees,if a fish runs towards you at speed with the rod at 90 degrees you will lose tension quicker resulting in hooks falling out See ,its easy REW take a protractor Lee started it 1 Quote Link to post

Only using 6lb line and on this I caught my biggest fish that took me 15 mins to get it. It just stayed dead still for ages and I couldn't bully the fish at all. Eventually we got him out with the help of nottzhunter but the fish only just went inside the net. We reckon 15lb in weight that one. Will find the video to show you. Quote Link to post

I have just watched that video of my biggest fish and it took it a while before it was ready to swim again. Lesson learned. We have a sneaky feeling there must be a pike,20lb or more in this lake. Steve caught a 10 lb fish that had deep bite marks across its body. Could that have been the monster. 1 Quote Link to post

It's down to the angler to make up tension when a fish runs at you. Northern lad you're right about summer time Pike, So many people think that Pike are indestructible when they are quite venerable, especially in the summer. 2 Quote Link to post
