walshie 2,804
I know most police forces have people they can call to deal with deer in road traffic collisions, so why they felt the need to send armed police with totally the wrong weapons, not to mention full metal jacket ammo is a mystery. Beating a deer to death with a crowbar surely isn't the right way to do it. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/11296562/Two-firearms-officers-accused-of-beating-injured-deer-to-death-with-a-crowbar.html
Born Hunter 17,976
Got to disagree Walshie. I think it's being blown out of proportion personally but I'm open to more detailed facts. If a shot is unsafe a heavy blow to the head with a crowbar is perfectly humane. Personally I can't see what the fuss is about. Also, how do you know the police use FMJs? I understood they used HPs, in pistol calibres at least?
Brigzy 1,298
I seem to remember this happening quite a while ago, unless it's history repeating itself ! Also, I agree with BH, if it were me I wouldn't have wasted a bullet, simply cut its throat....... Then took it home and butchered it.
walshie 2,804
I agree with both of you, BUT...if there are guys they can call that would do it properly, why send Pc Plod?
Brigzy 1,298
A local woman's terrier chased an injured roe, it had a broken front leg and neck and arse injuries, obviously the local poachers didn't finish the job. It got tangled in a sheep fence. She called the police, they refused to come out; she called the RSPCA, they refused to come out; she called the local vet, they refused to come out. A local lad walking his collie was passing, he broke its neck, gralloched it and took it home. The woman was in hysterics ! What the hell did she want ?

neil cooney 10,416
Reminds me of one from a few years back. A gun dealer I used to buy a few bits from told me he was dressed for a dinner one night (Tux and bow tie) when he got a call to say that two Garda officers (policemen) were standing on the side of the road beside a wounded deer and needed someone with a firearm to finish the job. He said he'd go out but was under pressure and didn't want to be late. He brought a hornet .22 with him. He arrived at the scene and one of the coppers asked him what they needed to do to sort out the deer for the table. He explained that as soon as he'd shot the beast it would need bleeding. No one had a knife. As he shot the beast he said one of the Gard's was roaring down the walkie talkie at another Gard (who was flying in a squad car to the scene) to get here with the f***ing knife as quick as he f***ing could.
