pelletdash 0
Hi I'm looking to buy a new Springer. And either want the tx200 or the 97... IV shot both but can't decide ? Witch one will serve me better for hunter.? And witch one more accurate. Can some one advise me please. Thanks in advance Quote Link to post
zandy01 3,575
Both excellent choices mate, but to be honest it's more of a personal preference although the TX 200 will be better straight out the box and the HW 97 would be better after a tin or 2 of pellets through it and then have it tuned... I went for the 97KT over the TX 200HC as i shouldered both, the TX feels really nice to shoulder and shoot but the anti-bear trap put me off... Pop to your local RFD and shoulder both and see which you like/feel most comfortable with... There really isn't any difference in accuracy Welcome to the mad house Quote Link to post
pelletdash 0
Thanks I think the TX200 is the better rifle for me Quote Link to post

Rez 4,961
Hi man. Im a springer fan myself, and owning what I think are the best of the lot, the 97 and the Pro Sport [i know your on about a 200 before hand, but they are similar], I have to say that I think the pro sport is a better rifle if you want to shoot accurately from the beginning... But. and its a big but, the shooting experiences are so different. Im a massive HW fan and having both mine v-mached has made a lot of difference. They're really smooth and bloody accurate. Ive owned them for about 3 years now and wouldn't swop them for anything. Originally the idea was to PX my 97 for half the Pro Sport and Im so glad I didn't. Even though the mrs doesn't think so. I bought my Pro Sport this weekend just gone and jesus what a rifle. Its brand new, 3/4's of a tin of AA 4.52's later and its getting better and better. The point being is that its only this good straight away in terms of shooting [i know there smooth out of the box] because the HW's have taught me sooooo much about shooting a springer, they are the ONLY place to start if you want to start learning how to shoot a spring rifle properly to reap the rewards in the future. They highlight bad technique like its gone out of fashion, and I dont think I would appreciate the Pro Sports shooting cycle as much if I didn't have such a top set of springers to compare it against. The Pro Sports almost PCP compared to the HW's but no more accurate I have to say. There is only so much pellet you can put another pellet on top of Get a HW97 .177. You will not regret it and it will teach you the ways of the Jedi. Good luck with it all. Edited November 17, 2014 by Rez 3 Quote Link to post
bigmac 97kt 13,824
Right where do i start :hmm: hw 97 1, a cracking rifle one of the best money can buy . 2, not that good out of the box dose get better with time but money will have to be spent to make it spot on. 3, wait ,they are heavy and after walking the fields you will no about it i can tell you ,a gun sling is a must (i think so any way ) 4 They are pellet fussy mine loves jsb 15,89 but once you find the pellet that yours likes then it will shoot spot on 5, accuracy, you should be able to put pellet on pellet out to 30 , 40 mtrs once you have found the pellet it likes. 6 tune and polish , have this dune to one and boy will you notice the difference ,vmach kits are easy to get as with the welsh willy kits these kits along with a polish will smooth every thing out and reduce kick and spring noise . but be warned they will take your rifle over 12ftp and will need a few tins of pellets through her and then crono,d to see if its come down if not then the spring will need a coil or two taken off . it all comes down to your personal preference and what you need it for . TX200 hc 1, out the box, fantastic out the box put it in the bag and the pellets in your pocket and off you go . 2 bear trap. this can be annoying at first until you get used to it but once master,d it will be second nature to you and you will not even think of it . 3 , kits same as the hw97 vmach and welsh willy,s . 4, tune and polish. once fitted and polished next to none kick and as near silent as you can get a springer to be. 5, nice to shoulder and shoot and cracking in the field and range 6, accuracy, mint out the box as said above not that pellet fussy but all rifles will like cert-on pellets find a one it likes and bobs your uncle no worry s at all . PRO SPORT 1 out the box, same as the tx mint . 2, under leaver , in my opinion the only bad point about this rifle ,good that it fits into the stock and is hidden from view but it feels like you could snap it at any time as it feels flimsy and that its silver and i think should be black. 3,left hand stocks , there are a few out there but they dont make them any more so if your a lefty then your out of luck . 4,shoulder and balance, nice to shoulder and the balance is perfect for me any way they just feel right 5,barrel, the barrel is shrouded to reduce noise and a silencer can not be fitted to one but i think there quiet enough any way 6, accuracy , good very good and as with the tx out of the box mint . 7, tune and polish, same kits as above with astounding results they fire like a pcp but with a little kick and is one of my favorites. All of the rifles above iv owned and all were 22 no mater which one you buy you will end up with one of the best you can buy as springers go any way . It all comes down to what you like and what feels right to you we can all say get this or that but your on the right track with what you have chosen tx or hw as if you buy cheap then you buy twice and the two you are looking at are not cheap. and just remember stay safe and have fun hope this helps atvbmac  2 Quote Link to post

Rez 4,961
Indeed mac. We'll have to arrange a shoot man, especially when you get your PS. We'll sit in a hid with a tipple and drop the black stuff for a few hours I will. Actually considering a CS stock having held a 700 at the club. 2 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
It's a crying pity the Prosport isn't made for us left-handers. It's the factory-standard walnut stock Air Arms wrap the rifle in, that I wanted most of all. As air rifles are, I'm a Weihrauch man through and through. So the HW97K is my choice of the two rifles in question. And I have both the HW97K and TX200HC .177 rifles. BUT.... For utter accuracy and reliability, nothing beats a sweetly tuned and well set-up WEIHRAUCH HW77 .22. :toast: :toast: That's the spring rifle Daddy of all spring rifles in my book. Anyone of you lads looking for a spring rifle you'd be proud to own, are missing out on something seriously nice if you don't put this rifle on your list of considerations to try out. bigmac 97kt 13,824
First off Simon how are you and your good lady keeping , well i hope , And to tell you the truth i had for got all about the hw 77 the older brother of the 97 iv never owned one may be its time i did as every one that has had one loves them to bits . Mind it will have to be some thing special to take me away from the 97k. atvbmac  1 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
We are both very well and hearty indeed thank you Mac. Hope you and your family are too dear friend. The Weihrauch HW77 is really overlooked by a lot of lads today who, for whatever reason, are looking at choices with other spring rifles on offer out there. But the HW77 is an unbelievably accurate rifle. It's also one of the best built Weihrauchs still in production. I wouldn't be without mine and if (God forbid) I had to part with all my guns but, keep only one air rifle I have, it would have to be my HW77 .22. I would love for you to try mine out on a full day's hunting with it Mac, If you love your HW97 and rightly so, you'll love this HW77. My old pal Andy here tuned it to the smoothest cocking and almost-recoilessly shooting spring rifle I've ever owned. It'll match a PCP any day of the week. Best wishes mate. If im ever down your way for what ever reason ill give you a shout and we can have a shoot together even if its at a shooting range near you . Ill show you how us northerners shoot (as if iv got a chance)lol But i would fetch the sweetest hw97k that is out there and shoots just like a pcp and as you no Simon that takes some doing she is fitted with welsh willy trigger and full v mach kit and all the internals polished to a very high standard all this was dune off marksman off here when he finished he did not want to give her back to me lol. My shooting mate vislauk off here hates all the hw97,s bar one if he has to use a 97 he asks for my son in laws (it was mine but i sold it to him but i can get it at any time). I rate you very highly (as do a lot of the lads) ,in the springer world and you have help,d me many a time and some times with out you knowing with the help of some of your posts and if the 77 shoots the way you say it dose then i will get to shoot it one day both of you look after your self's my friends atvbmac  Quote Link to post
