Jump Retrieve

Recommended Posts

Tried my pup jumping a small hurdle and retrieving today and he done it first time. We are a work in progress, but he picks things up quick. So hopefully he masters this soon. Needs more work on release and hopefully he stops shaking his catch. Can't wait for him to get his 2nd needle on 18/11 and get him out soon after. I am new to the forum so not to sure if this short vid will work.

Great stuff - looks very responsive. Keep the jumps low while he's young as they can damage themselves trying to jump too high before they're physically ready for it. atb with him...

Cheers krawnden. I will keep the jumps low, even if he clips the box it will fall. He was jumping on my bed the day I got him @ 8 weeks. As I said cant wait to get him out into a bigger space and train him up for next season. I will just take things slowly hes got plenty of time.

The shaking of the item is a sign of overload , meaning the item is really energising the pup into a state of excitement, which is leading to the fact that you are having issues with the hand over

I would take it slow but best of luck with the pup

Nice one casso. Thats the first time he tried jumping and retrieving. In his defence his teeth stick in that teddy when he releases. Maybe i will try him in a couple of days with a platsic toy as when he fetches and retrieves a rope or teddy he does seem to shake them. Thanks for the advice mate.

I think I get what your saying but the retrieve ultimately leaves a pup frustrated

Amplified by the fact it's all indoors which increases the excitement in the pup

There was a post up the other day about a natural retrieve , its a calm relaxed state, no hyper energy, no shaking, no biting

A excited pup will need to ground the energy it feels into the retrieve item but the owner won't be involved because he is no resolution to the excitement that's when the pup breaks off and becomes slower coming back , there is just too much energy in his system

I like to keep pups on a back burner, raised slow and calm , the less excitement goes in the less energy we have to deal with coming back out,

Nice one beast. Yeah mate I wouldnt sicken him with this task. I done the same with a plastic toy today and it went very smoothly. No shaking and released with no problem. He has got all the basics sussed now, apart from walking on the lead. Just hope he can take this into the field. I am happy with his progress so far, and we are learning all the time.

Just had his 2nd set of jabs. Vet asked me do I wanna 3rd one just to make sure, has anyone else had this done? I told her no. Was talking about still carrying the dams anti-bodies etc. So I let her know hen didn't get his 1st till 9 weeks 2 days old. Money grabbing f***ers.
