To put this request into perspective, you are on a Porsche enthusiast forum and have asked, can I have a go with your Porsche?

Most people with permissions have worked bloody hard to get them. EVERYONE with a permission works hard to keep it. I can't see many people making the offer for someone they do not know to turn up and start shooting on their highly valued permission.

That's a fair answer, and I do appreciate that as a response. Usually people get an absolute rashing for this question. You're lucky Rake hasn't appeared yet. When he does, just take it with a pinch of salt. Chris Harris got a right earful and absolutely ridiculed, but he's stuck with it, now has a permission, and if you check out his 'Absolute Disaster' thread, you'll see that we are knobs, but also very helpful.

As hard as you find it, it's the same for everyone else. We have a guy on here whose been looking for a permission for around 8 years, I think it was. He finally got a permission of something ridiculous like 9'000 acres of land. Oddly, we've not heard from him since he got his uber-permission.

You'd do better joining a shooting club and learning from the guys there. Also, get out and knock doors. Many articles have been written trying to help people get permissions and help them get started with shooting. Spend some time using the search function and you'll get a lot of great information.

When you sign up to this forums it tells you not to make posts asking for permission. However I guess you didn't see this, although I am sure it is mentioned more than once during the sign-up process. :D

I have had the dubious pleasure of being both a permission giver and a permission requester. As a giver it was extremely rare that we let anyone on the land, especially as we all shot anyway, but interestingly we did let a pair of polite and smart young men on and in return they helped out on the farm from time to time! As a requester, I am extremely lucky to have friends and relatives who are farmers, so they know me and so are happy to say yes, or even invite me. However none of them usually give permission to people they don't know, even if they don't shoot themselves.
