*The*Field*Marshall* 674
Now, I've owned ferrets on and off since I can remember and I've never had a problem with fleas before. Last week picked my little white gill up to give her a bit of fuss as I've been working a lot lately, anyway I noticed a few of the little critters on her, me with my impatient OCD nature gets the comb out and whisks what I can find out, 8/9. . Job done, happy days, or so I thought. . Monday I'm handling her again and alas! More of the feckers, out comes the comb again, same amount. So now I'm off down the pet store for some treatment (Beaphar) treated her as directed. So, after work yesterday I check on her and to my disgust I find 4/5 fleas at the end of each of the feet, presuming their looking to out of town? I noticed a few dead ones too. The poor thing must be sick to death of them!! Any of you ladies or gents had such trouble?? My polecat hob who I keep in the next tier up has had no such trouble, I treated him too to make sure. Neither is treated differently, I am somewhat mystified. Quote Link to post

willum 89
I've had it with mine but I use effiprol few squirts on each of them moved them to my spare hutch then used Johnsons cage and hutch spray in there one once it was all cleaned out left it a few yours to air swept out new bedding and like no more pesky critters. Just a precaution I spray hutch out once a month now no more problems as of yet. 1 Quote Link to post
vanman1 411
I like yourself have had ferrets for more years than i care to mention, and this year has been particularly bad. Sprayed mine with frontline spray and also the hutch and must say the problem is solved using it.Vet told me its bad this year for them and ticks. 1 Quote Link to post

Mochastorm 68
Not had any problems this year, but in the past have given them a little squirt of Frontline. The cage however got a complete clean out, a quick seeing to with the Dyson (wife not at home, obviously) followed by a blast with a blowtorch to all the creases and joins. Finally a spraying with a ferret safe disinfectant. It gives me some peace of mind that I am reducing the chances of disease. 2 Quote Link to post
*The*Field*Marshall* 674
Cheers guys. I suppose I posted more out of frustration than anything else. Just one of those things I guess. I'll be giving the aforementioned treatment a go next time though Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
Again I have kept ferrets for over 50 years and never seen a flea on one of them. This year they are walking with fleas. I have tried everything. (spent a fortune) but they have always been back in a week or two. TC Quote Link to post
dogger 100
what bedding are you using? straw/hay can carry all sorts of beasties i use shredded paper as bedding to reduce the risk a bit it can also be disposed of easily in the bin or burnt i was also told years ago that if you grow marigolds and put them in your bird shed you wont get any mites attacking your birds as they hate them just wondering if you put up hanging baskets or potted ones near your hutches if it would keep bugs away anyone else heard of this? 1 Quote Link to post
*The*Field*Marshall* 674
I was using the fine straw dogger. . I managed to shift the flees from the ferrets. . Yesterday however when cleaning out the tiers I put my hob and gill in a disused tier, always has been, when I finished I put them back but noticed fleas on them on them . . Immediately I turned my attention to the spare tier, turned over the straw and my days it moving with jumping fleas! Never seen so many of the damn things. Back to square frigging one Quote Link to post

I dilute it 1:10 (1 part neem to 10 parts water) you can do it stronger if it dosent irritate skin.........try doing a small part of the fert/dog first and leave for 24 hours to check theres no reaction, none of my animals have ever had one though. Once your happy put on a pair of marigolds(TOMO will have plenty ) and massage it right into there fur. 1 Quote Link to post
