Never in my life have i heard such crap. Obese people blaming anyone but themselves for their condition ie environmental factors blah blah. Except in the case of medical conditions it is simply a case of eating too much and not exercisng enough. We all have choices. I smoke and drink and if i really wanted to i would give up but i enjoy it and am fully aware that i will pop my clogs early cos of it. Time people stopped anything and anyone. For fecks sake these people should get out a bit more and eat a bit less if they are that worried about there weight. Sorry to rant just really hacked me off. Yep i am thin but then i dont eat enough so whos fault is that MINE! Dosent matter what size anyone is as long as they dont blame anyone else for it.

I'm a firm beleiver of exercise other than dieting.

Yes watch what you eat, eat health most of the time, treat your self now and again, but a little exercise goes along way over dieting.

It takes less mental will power to exercise than to diet.

Well thats what I think, coming from a 5'10 10st 3lb bloke.

I think your correct , obese people do blame everyone else for the fact there obese, having recently lost nearly 3 stone i feel better than i did 20 yrs ago, have much more confidence & i dont get out of breath doing the simplist of things now like i did last year, the best day of my life so far was my son saying '' mom your not fat now'' i like you like this , he actually dont mind me being in the same room as him now , i embarrased him basically , it was a wake up call i needed , emotional blackmail i suppose but its made me more aware of my health & it was not good, i feel 100% now & intend to do plenty more things with my life that weight stopped me doing

So if i ever neeed any more encouragment i will think of my son :D

Couldn't agree more Groverdog: my pet hate is people that blame anyone but themselves for being fat (actually: we're not even allowed to use that word now, are we! Big is the new word for fat unless your'e actually obese!)

If the FAT gits got out more and ate correctly instead of sitting in front of the TV or PC all day (although I'm on here a lot I just dive on to the forum every now and then to catch up: then I'm out again dogging, or training etc, and I work from the PC too so its all too easy to look like a computer hunter LOL!) and night they wouldn't have a problem: eat to live, not live to eat: if they did that they wouldn't be clogging up the NHS with their gluttony problems.

When I get to the supermarket check out I look at other peoples' trolleys and the amount of starchy fatty foods that they buy would have me throwing up in no time: no wonder they're obese!

Also:::::::::::has anyone noticed how many aisles in a supermarket are devoted to the 'bad' foods: Ready meals, cakes, biscuits, sweets, crisps, soft sweet drinks etc etc?? And compare that with the amount of room given to fruit and veg etc.

Rant over!! :rolleyes::D

I think the problem is people dont cook properly anymore, its easier to open a pack of biscuits than to make a meal, i am not skinny by any stretch of the inagination , but i think loosing excess weight not only is healthier but its the fact you gain self worth , i hated myself , i hated my husband wanting sex because i was ashamed of my body

I think you really have to want to loose weight & you need to be driven , but not driven to the point of eating issues

I agree with the idea that people should start to take more resposibility for their own health but try to understand that being overweight and smoking are hard problems to deal with as often linked to other areas such as mental health ie smokers may be self medicating depressives. I don't thing there will be an easy answer to these expensive problems untill we are able to treat the causes rather than the symptoms. Recently speaking to a overweight person who was complaining that the "Drs" were blaming her knee pain on her weight rather than "sorting it out". I asked her what she would say if I walked around with a rucksack filled with bricks and went to the Drs with knee pain? she wasn't happy. Groover dog you say that you are happy to except that you will most probably die younger as you smoke but should non-smokers have to pay for all the extra medical costs that your smoking may incur?

There are exceptions to the rule but on average smokers and the obese cost the NHS a lot more than the rest of the population.

Funny as ye should raise this issue just now, GroverDog. I'm the family Genealogist and have had the mournful duty of examining the Death Certificates of several relatives.

So, anyway, only last thing this morning I had to Google the things that killed one of my aunts. All her family ever reported was that " Her guts turned rotten and she died. " I got her Death Certificate and read what it said on there. Then I translated the weird sounding diagnosese on Google.

Up shot is that her lower intestine burst and flooded her system with her own shit! Why did this happen? Medical science provides two likely and most common causes: Life long lack of proper dietry fibre and / or ..... yeppers; Obesity! And Aunt Bec was the sort of size of woman who'd always have excused herself as being " Big Boned " too. Just like I've no doubt her fat daughter is still claiming to be.

Oh; And None of our forebears were overweight ~ 'genetically' or otherwise. Life, for them. was too damn hard and they simply couldn't afford to sit at home all day, whinging and " Comfort Eating " themselves into a horrible death.

oh i know there are some medical conditions physical and mental (sorry cant physio???) that would cause someone to have there crutches ie fags, food, drugs etc etc. But 1 major point i'd like to make is this

As a 35 yo who smokes, drinks, drives a gas guzzling Disco, lives in the sticks with no kids who cost money to educate, never claimed benfits and hardly use the medical practise i believe (now someone please correct me if i am wrong) me and my partner pay a hell of alot of tax towards whatever our pathetic excuse of a goverment decides to spend it on. That i pay a fair bit towards my future cancer treatment. There is no tax on junk food or fatty crap that the supermarkets churn out. Thats where as far as im concerned the whole thing is going t*ts up. Plus getting the future generations out and about and exercising. I am not a 'fattist' at all whatever floats peoples boats is fine by me but i am the leper of society for being a smoker. Oh and as a barmaid i think one of the biggest strains on the NHS is Friday and Saturday kicking out times!! Casualty is never full on these nights cos someone had 1 too many fags.
