Daz87 76
Hi guys, Haven't posted in a while as I've been on holiday, so just thought I'd share this little story.. Popped round my mums last week for a catch up, she starts telling me that in the last few evenings she's spotted a couple of rats in the back garden. She had thrown bread out for the birds & these greedy buggers had snatched it. She goes on to say that she no longer feels safe walking to the garden shed as she's heard that when rats feel threatened they go for ya throat!! I tried to keep a straight face & reassured her that unless these ratty's are armed with step ladders or pogo sticks... She should be alright (she's not a midget). I see the opportunity to be a hero & turn up the next night kitted out with my HW95k & front rifle rest. I zero my panorama scope for 15 yards and sit the rifle and rest on my garden table, it's a vey comfortable shooting spot. I then set my trap... This involves 2 slices of bread with a few dollops of peanut butter. It's around 9.30 pm and I have no night vision kit so I turn the lamps round that we have placed along the side of the garden (apparently they create a nice ambience) and use these as spot lights on the 2 piece's of bread which are about 10 yards apart. I then load the rifle, switch on the illuminated reticle & kick back to relax. Now it's just a waiting game, me vs rat. Surely enough within 10 minutes the first one pops his head out of the bush & sniff's the air, the scent of the crunchy peanut butter is too much to resist & he scuttles out for a lil nibble, that's the last thing he does as I send a jsb exact straight into the side of his head! I reload & wait it out, 20 minutes pass & then there's a rustle from the bushes. The second rat is on the same route as the first & also has a little sniff before tip toe'ing over to the bread, he takes a quick look at his dead mate & must presume he's sleeping on the job. That's the last thought he has before joining him in ratty heaven, my pellet hits him head on & he rolls over right next to the first. All goes quiet & I sit tight for another 30 mins but no one else turns up to the party. I call it a night, happy with my 2 shots. Spoke to my mum today & there's been no sign of any rats since, so she's happy & I'm happy, everyone's a winner. Thanks for reading. Daryl 3 Quote Link to post
