gorger 977
Read ur post mate you still hunting a dog in summer with an injury you caused by running the guts outa him. He only just turned 12 months. Give the dog 6 months off but I bet you can't do it. You won't find a pup that can do the things that pup done at its age shame you ruined it. 1 Quote Link to post

skycat 6,174
Have a look at this: http://www.vetsurgerycentral.com/ortho_carpal_hyperextension_injury.htm This injury is typical in young dogs that have been run too young too hard. No wonder lurcher owners have such a bad reputation in rescue organisations. They see so many dogs which have been ruined like this, and with similar tendon and ligament injuries. Only a complete fool would try to run a dog that was obviously suffering from a visible injury, whether it 'seems' in pain or not. Even if a ligament or tendon hasn't actually torn or snapped, it takes at least 10 weeks with gentle lead work ONLY for it to heal, gradually building up to faster exercise before actually running the dog. Ligaments and tendons have a very poor blood supply which is why they take so long to heal. If the dog has been hammered whilst it was still growing, not yet mature, then there's not a lot of hope that it will ever make a full recovery. 7 Quote Link to post

desertbred 5,490
The best advice I can give you Troy boy is re=home the dog and donot get another one, Basically you have not got a clue, the pup because that is what it is, has possibly been crippled for life ,either by your lack of experience or plain stupidity. By the comments you make about it still catching I would venture stupidity as the correct answer. No one with any nouse should even talk to you about another dog the money you talk of for the 6 X-rays use that to advertise for a proper home for the dog.. Fennster16 29
My bitch did all her ligaments and a small fracture in her backleft leg playing as a pup,(she went over a hidden log in the leaves) 15 weeks in plaster, a lost back pad, it took me near 10-12 months of gental lead walks, road walking short jogging to get it to recover. The vet at one stage suggested the leg should be amputated. Didnt work her til she was near 3 (and then with the ferrets to start). Give the dog plenty of rest, and then slowly build it back up. Dont work it its only like humans would you go running if ur legged was b@@@@@? My bitch limps only now n then, i give her plenty of fish to help with bones etc, and if it slowed her down u wouldnt notice now, turns on a pin. you are going to have to have some patients in getting back right. I know my dogs limitations and she always gets a good summer break so she can just rest and enjoy the summer not just be a constant worker (i feel u can break a dogs spirits doing this) and saying ur dogs not in pain, my bitch didnt once whimper after the inital fall, doesnt mean he is not in pain. I would also advise a pet plan for the future. 1 Quote Link to post

gorger 977
Its not a wind up the pup off my dog. The lad put a topic on here when it was 4 months old smashing rabbits. I told him then its a dog its to young leave it. At 6 months it was killing big rabs then 8 months he sent me a video on my phone it doing a fox single handed aswell them bigger stuff. I kept telling him he got a whopping pup let it mature and grow or this would happen he kept saying he would rest it. But the pup was doing so good he cudnt resist it. He just no experience or wouldn't listen. Now he ruined it he will regret it as the rest litter doing so well cause were so well looked after including my own. Shame but he had to learn the hard way. He struggle to find a pup as good as that again. 1 Quote Link to post

Shame appears would of made a hell of a dog. 8 months on charlie, could of killed the dog or totally killed off its spirit. Sad really Quote Link to post

arcticgun 4,548
Got a pup I bred here eight month old buit like a tank, not far off size of his sire, he been catching young rabbits whilst off leash for few weeks now, cant be avoided cos we out early and late cos its too hot in the day too exercise em, it would be so easy too take him down the road 'jusf too have a look see on summat a bit faster' in fact just been chatting too me pal about it lol I wont mind simply cos its not worth it at end of the day, eithet kill soft leveret or worse case get towed by older hare, grounds far too hard n too much cover, plus itxs just plain wrong to be honest 3 Quote Link to post
