Canada - Update

Recommended Posts

Hi

Posted a few months ago on our plans to move to Canada after our holiday in May to finalise our decision on the move, well our trip went really well and it was brilliant. We started off in Calgary staying at a mates place for eight days. He took us sight seeing most of the time and he took us to areas that he thought we would like the look of and there are some really good places that we are interested in. After we had done our research of the places it was time to have a look around at the attractions. He took us to the Rockies and "wow" the scenery was out of this world, it was beautiful, we loved it.

The following day he took us to a hunting/fishing store call "Bass Pro Sports". It was huge, I've never seen a hunting/fishing store like this before. When we walked through the doors and saw all what was in there, I was in ecstasy. There were stuffed animals everywhere i.e. Polar Bears, Black Bears, Wolves, Buffalos, Moose, Wolverine, Elks, Sockeye Salmon, Stags in a fighting scene, the list is endless. Rows and rows of fishing gear, boats, quads, clothing, camping and BBQ's. So I went up in the lift to the gun section and I kid you not there was a row of all different guns that stretched over 100 yards, I found it hard to take it all in, it was pretty impressive.

Whilst I was out there I got myself lined up with a job to go to, doing carpentry/building on a good starting wage, so that was a bonus. 8 hour days, 5 days a week. So that's all sorted.

After the eight days had past we flew to Vancouver Island for another eight days holiday with the in-laws. This time we hired a car for further sight seeing at our own pace and relax a bit too. I did do some fishing whilst I was there but it was a bit early in the season before the Sockeye Salmon run, but whilst fishing the views were breath taking. After our 8 days on the island we returned home, "jet lagged".

We have now posted all our papers back to Canada in the hopes to moving there permanently, we can't wait.

Thanks TL

Sister in law emigtated to Calgary about 5 years ago and loves the place ,said theres no way theyre coming back to live here,a word of caution however regarding money, fuel, meat, cars and houses are dirt cheap compared to here, the stuff to put in the house is very expensive. The brother in law is a senior manager for an electrical firm 6 figure salary, she was going to get a part time job around the school run,she now works 12 hr shifts on a chemical/oil plant (she has a HND in electronics)to make ends meet, hope all goes well,ATB Dave
