fireman 11,463
Apart from my Greenfinches not a lot was doing much nest building wise, seen plenty of pairs feeding each other and carrying of nesting stuff and even treading going on but nothing in the pans as it were, well one of my Bullfinch pairs have been looking at building where they roost and a couple of weeks ago i put in a covered nest pan near to this but again nothing happening. That is until on monday i turned the paan round 90 degree's so it was facing into where they were roosting and within the hour she was carrying nesting stuff up into it and today my first bully egg of the year is here and the redpoll pair i collected from Millet have now built so she'll have eggs by the weekend and even the goldies have picked up in the bonding and feeding bit and she is carrying a lot of nesting stuff up to a pan but just not yet putting it in but it wont be long,a little move around of the pans has sure been a good move and it's about to get busy

fireman 11,463
So ..... Mules are generally sterile, yeah ....? I believe thats the case Pete yes...........think they will still raise chicks though if im not wrong................ How mad is this me telling you something about birds Totaly correct Gnasher and (i've never reared with one personaly) there ment to be good mums as they take live food and canaries won't usualy,as for fetile mules 25% of siski mules are ment to be fertile and the red factor canary was bred due to breeding red breasted (i think it's those ones )siskin mules and then breeding them back to canaries to catch the colour bit. I just could see something just wasn't right Dotty and have to say it was through sitting and watching her getting frustrated (if you can see that in a bird ??)with the spot she wanted and i knew i had to do something for her and daft as this all sounds i did take a read from her and sort of acted on auto pilot to sort it and have to say i'm rather pleased with myself today I'll just add i've a goldie mule hen built and she's paired herself up with the mule i got from Millet and i might just give a egg from one of my native pairs to see how she goes with it if the timing is right.
