zandy01 3,576
Have got 7 month whippet pup (Harley), he is fed on mix of about 35% complete with tripe/minced chicken carcasses, veg... He gets a tin of mackerel or sardines in sunflower oil once a week... Was wondering if anyone adds any oils or supplements to diet to help as precaution in older years with joints and also to help skin and coat or any advice ??? Here's some pics of pup Quote Link to post
Hareydave 1,214
us a cap full cod liver oil every day Quote Link to post
jennym 39
The amount of fish and tripe you are feeding I wouldn't bother putting anything additional in at moment. I've just started my 2 older gun dogs (lab and cocker) on a broad spectrum joint supplement, they're 6 and 9, this is just preventative. Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
I feed a tin of fish in sunflower oil once or twice a week. Fresh trout occasionally. Plenty of oils and good fats there. 1 Quote Link to post
collie/grey 238
Cod liver oil everyday isn't a good idea. Salmon oil or coconut oil are a better option. 1 Quote Link to post

zandy01 3,576
Thanks for comments and feedback, think I'm just gonna stick with mackerel/sardine in oil and one raw egg a week is good shout, planning on taking trip to Durham animal feeds as I was going to try and mix diet up a little too, was thinking of adding some offal chunks, heart and minced beef to the menu... (Will still feed tripe, chicken, veg, fish, dry kibble etc) but different meat/food on different days/times Any thoughts or advice on the above diet/foods would be welcome... Quote Link to post
mushroom 14,207
A whole mackerel once a week does them a world of good, plus glucosamine but I wouldn't add the Gluco until the dog is older Quote Link to post
