tillbrook 24
I have recently purchased a .22lr I took it out monday for bunnys when realising after my first shot the scope was out so I put my targets out at a 100 yards the shots were always left of my target. In the end I ended up closing thr target in to about 80yards and moving the cross hair over as far right as possable and still it shoots to the left I am new to this game this is my first firearm can anyone advise me on the scope I think its broke just want an experienced shooter t put me right. The other thing it eas misfiring . Can anyone advise me on what gun to buy in .22lr for bunny vetmin exc and what size scope for shooting as far as possable with this gun ? Quote Link to post

The old brno,is a spot on little gun and probably only want's a bolt strip and clean, and after it will kill rabbits long after you have gone, they are proper work horse's, as for the scope, you didn't say if the shots were grouping to the left of target or spraying around, firstly check the scope and mounts are secure,do this carefully check everything, also if it has a silencer on get it off, and strip it down and clean it,did you buy this gun with the scope on or have you fitted it yourself??how old is the scope has it any signs of having a few dings in its time ?? scopes are cheap enough now to buy and a brno doesn't need anything fancy, you could take it to a gun shop and pick a scope and get them to fit it,they should barrel sight it in or use a shot saver, which will put you on the card then its just some small adjustments to sort it,I always set my 22 at 65 yds i would try and bring it in to about 40 yds till you are consistent at that range first, then as your confidence grows move your target out, Quote Link to post
Bunny Boiler 177
CZ and you'll never go wrong. As for scope, fixed mags tend to be rated highly. 8x40 or similar. Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
I have a late 70's brno and its better quality feel than my 2013 cz hmr as said give it a strip and clean. Also has it a silencer if so strip it and check for any problems. I personally zero at 50 yards using winchester subs Quote Link to post
tillbrook 24
Bought the gun frm shop on thurday as a fully serviced gun so would have thought all would be good to go n not having to strip it myself. Its miss firing as well as the sights being out so I think I will just take it back and ask for it to be fixed if it can be fixed. But all in all you guys say this gun will do me for rabbits yeah once sorted ??? Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Honestly the brno/cz models standard are unbeatable in the field. Does the rifle have a silencer? And it will need a new firing pin spring if miss firing Quote Link to post
tillbrook 24
What about semi auto rifles would I be better with one of them or what? Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Some people love semi autos but I prefer bolt action to be honest. Some say their is no accuracy difference however ive found at looking at extensive reviews that bolt actions are slightly more accurate and alot more reliable. Also semis dont cycle subsonic ammo well and thats what youd want to use for rabbit shooting, subsonic ammo is the real benefit to a .22lr almost silent with a mod. Defo quieter than most spring air rifles imo Quote Link to post
3175darren 1,102
What about semi auto rifles would I be better with one of them or what? I have had both, and have settled back with the bolt action,I find them more consistent than the semi's although semi's have there uses, but I have had three 2 anchutz and one brno semi auto's, and found I spent a lot of time trying to find which ammo suited the rifles the best as they are all different, where as the bolt action's its not such a problem, you find once you are used to a bolt action you can load and fire quickly and accurately no problems at all,and you dont have to strip clean them as much,I now have a cz bolt action I use RWS subsonic ammo, and I can tell you I am sticking with it, Quote Link to post

But all in all you guys say this gun will do me for rabbits yeah once sorted ??? That gun is one of the best rimfire rifles ever made in my opinion, for rabbiting without doubt its a great work horse,I got a mate of mine to buy one as his first firearm about 4 yr ago, I set the scope for him,and he swears by it,I can tell you he doesn't miss much at all,he uses winchester subsonic ammo and love's them, don't give up on it,take it back and get them to sort it, Quote Link to post
Cedric 132
tillbrook - you might be being a bit ambitious trying to zero at 100 yards. Once you get the misfiring problem sorted go with a 25 yard target until you can get most of the shots touching in a group. If still shooting to the left and you run out of adjustment check the fit of your moderator (if fitted) first, they can throw shots well off. Shoot a group with no moderator to check. Ask you gun dealer if he has a spare scope you can try, they often get them in part exchanges. Check the mounts as well. If you bought the gun second hand it's doubtful if the dealer went to the expense of stripping the bolt but they should fix it for you. Decent scopes for .22 rf can be bought at moderate expense, you don't need to see a knat at 100 yards ! Unless the gun has been abused it should be a great bunny rifle, if you're new to rimfires stick with a bolt action, much easier to maintain than a semi. Quote Link to post
tillbrook 24
Ok thanks I speak to dealer today and see whats what Quote Link to post

But all in all you guys say this gun will do me for rabbits yeah once sorted ??? Take it back, explain the problems and ask for a fix or money back. As already mentioned, the .22lr is not a 100 yard bunny gun generally, certainly not for the inexperienced. It seems many zero at 50-60 yards and can take a few shots a bit longer, but if your daily requirement was 100 yards or more then perhaps you need to look at a HMR. Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
+1 deker. I usually take the .22lr out to 80yards and occasionally 100 yards. But if im shooting ground that mostly produces 100+ yard shots I use the hmr. Quote Link to post
tillbrook 24
Ah ok thanks Quote Link to post
