Malt 379
Just got this program on in the background, it's about planning permission applications. Some snooty pair were moaning about this big tree house on their neighbours land, saying it was 'impinging on their privacy' by looking onto their land.. It was half a mile away on the other side of a valley FFS! Planning officer told them to feck off!
WILF 51,417
Planning law is a joke mate, no consistency at all.........you want to buy a little field and put up a nice log cabin well in keeping with the landscape then forget it ! However, if you want to drop 400 concrete hutches that all look exactly same over a 100 acres of greenbelt, no problem....go right ahead!! It's a f***ing joke and so are those tits at the council that enforce it !

beast 1,884
trouble with a lot of stuff is when big corporations are involved. if their plans are rejected, they hire in planning consultants, and go through as much legal process as they can, which a lot of councils simply cant afford to fight through the whole court system. this is why you see developments with a bunch of new homes, but they say "this complex will include a doctors surgery, park etc" as a deal with the council: let us build all these houses and we will give you a few bits for the community, otherwise we'll see you in court. its the same with the big supermarkets, they just put a pharmacy inside or similar as wilf said, planning law is a joke, if you have enough money you can effectively but your way round it

lapin2008 1,587
just in the middle of putting an extension on a grade 2 listed building. So we have the planners and the conservation officers to deal with and its a mine field. Some of the planning rules I have just about got my head round over the years but the conservation officers are on a whole other level. What they enforce is completely subjective so one can agree on something then be replaced in post by another officer who has a total different take on things who can in theory ask you to put it back. Done work on listed buildings as well. That's conservation officers, national park planning officers and council planning officers you've got to deal with round here on certain jobs! We are lucky here, we just fall outside the yorkshire dales 'area of outstanding natural beauty' thing or we would have similar here
RubyTex 1,957
I've never understood planning laws, if it's your land in theory you should be able to do whatever you want within reason. Wanting a log cabin or even a static caravan on your own land is always met with a "no" from the council...why not? Just daft.
baw 4,360
I heard on the radio the other day that any ground above a water pipe, drainage, sewerage pipe, the waterboard now own it. So if you build an extension, garage, tar the drive etc, the waterboard can tear it down or tear it up. Something to do with these sinkholes appearing so they've brought this rule in.
