ArchieHood 3,692
I was asked by one of the farm workers if we wanted to do some ferreting on an embankment and could he come along, well not to turn an offer away I spoke to Chris and we arranged to give it a go today.Luke was away at the Shooting Show so my trustee Spaniel was coming along for her first taste of ferreting. We met up at 09:00 am and introduced our selves, there was Myself, Chris, his son Kaylan, Ryan one of the Farm Managers, his colliie and Theo, the farm Directors son ">http:// The embankement was around 25 acres so we decided to ferret here untill dinner time then move to the hedgerows that lead to the farm. The first warren only produced a couple of young ones so we moved on.Chris set up the long nets while I showed the boys how to set the purse nets.We soon had 3 in the bag, nothing else showed so on to the next warren further down, a large copse of bramble.Again long nets and a few purse nets were deployed. We saw a few rabbits hole hopping in the middle but persevered and got a couple more out. Ryan left us at this point for a family lunch so we packed up and headed for the farm. After doing a recce we set up 100yds of long net up through the field, ">http:// ">http:// and then got the boys to lay about 40 purse nets up through the bank ">http:// ">http:// This produced 2 bolters in the long nets, 2 in the purse nets and 1 little 18 inch dig for number 10. We packed up and called it a day after a final picture, 10 in the bag, good weather, and a couple of new additions to the crew............. The boys done good...... ">http:// 9 Quote Link to post
chrismdd 787
Cheers for the invite Rik. Didn't get much footage on the camera and I should of cleaned the lens before starting (little boys meddling fingers!). Anyway a couple edited of bolters caught on film before the memory card was filled up. Great to try some different type of land compared to our normal hunting grounds. Still suffering from that final little dig where I lay my neck on those young stingers whilst retrieving number 10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8FK4w4s57Y Not much trouble with young rabbits so we'll persevere for a few weeks yet. Then maybe see about having a go with the longnets at night. And your spaniel done herself proud. Chris Edited February 16, 2014 by chrismdd 1 Quote Link to post
