bobcullen79 1,495
Nipped out for a couples of hours yesterday morning with Will, I picked him up from his Mrs, which meant he didnt have his ferrets No ideal for large, old sand warrens. Got to the place and it looked good for a few. However.. Got to the first set almost straight out of the car, behind the shower block, pursed up around 15 holes on a nice clear bank, entered two ferrets and stood back, Plenty of bumping, but nobody fancied a sharp exit.. Got the locator out and after 10 mins, still no mark!? Im starting to panic a little as I`ll really need all the ferrets Ive got in the coming weeks.. Will decided to pop through the fence to widen the search. We picked up a mark on the other side of the neighbouring road around 9/10 foot deep, just under the edge of the road, so deep it wasnt picking up a signal on locate mode! Shit... After Will got all old school and opened up a few rabbits we picked up off the snares on route (luckily) stuck it in a purse net and down a hole it went.. a bit of squeeking brought my jill back pronto! Happy days. With the attitude "Always out numbered, never out gunned" We set off to do the Big bank.. Being bigger and fairly clear we opted for the 50 yarder along the top, with 8 stoppies and a sprinkling of purse nets breaking up escape routes. It wasnt to be. Plenty of banging as before, but nada. Losing heart fast, we got a bolt, nice big rabbit. Out come the locator, which again isnt picking anything up under 10ft. Sadly this was the order of the day. For a total of 3. We did get one shallow enough to dig, just under 4ft. And we we`re lucky to catch it as it wasnt in a stop end, it was in the tube with a ferret each side and with the tubes being so wide, it could have passed a jill ferret easily. 3 Quote Link to post

Been doing a bit in the overgrown dyke banks, and if your not getting tore up, the chance of a wet leg is always lurking, so these looked well appealing. Yeah right.. Quote Link to post

vanman1 411
Nightmare agreed , i ferret an old sand quarry if they bolt your on a winner if not your fecked Went couple of weeks back had 5 every one dug ferrets have a real problem holding them as the tubes are so big they can run the ferrets ragged. We have found the only way to ferret our bit is by using 6-10 ferrets but your chance of a dig massively increases Quote Link to post
Hot Meat 3,109
aye sirius it could well be lol tho i do have easier places to go and places where there are more bunnys, but when you get a good day on them big sandy slopes bolting to dogs its all worth the hassle lol not so good tho when you got to dig 14fters cos your ferretin partner never tightened one of collsrs properly lol 2 Quote Link to post
