Traditional Lurcher Work?

Recommended Posts

Ive always been lead to believe the original lurcher breeding were made to be a versitile dog used to work the land ie sheep cattle and also hunting quarry such as bunny hare I dont know when the 1st lurchers were bred and used but nobody would probably know that for certain

from what iv read lurchers were bred during the times that wealthy landlords banned the taking of any game off their lands, and so no persons other than so called noble people were allowed to own hounds. so peasant masterminds bred their dogs and kept them hidden from there landlords in order to poach for feeding for their families,id imagine deer rabbit foul was there speciality

How long ago you talking about? as when the lurcher was first used there weren't any rabbits or fallow deer in the UK,Just hares, roe and red deer before the normans came.

I know its before the lurcher FM but red deer came over here 11000 years ago and there's also evidence to suggest hares may not be truelly native either which is quite interesting
