Need Expertise On Best Overall Hunting Spring Air Rifle?

Recommended Posts

I need advise on the best recomended spring air rifle for hunting small to medium game. Small, being rabbits, up to a size of a small boar or deer.

Any and all tried and tested recommendations would be appreciated, even particular accessories that make the complete package.

I want to see what you air rifle hunters have used and found to be reliable, high powered, accurate and long lasting.

I'd prefer a .177 or .25 info, but as I lack the expertise I'm open to your feedback. Reliability is a big factor for me, as when SHTF this will be my primary hunting tool.

I will be utilising the information I receive as feedback to purchase my next Springer, based on the general concensus.

Thank you in advance for your expert opinions.

Cheers,

Mig

18ft/lb perhaps in .177 but with which pellet? And up to what range?

30-40ft/lb not in .177 and not a springer.

Air rifle for small boar and deer? I thought that across the pond!! You had access to real guns!?

What's the norm?

In the States you have access to some beautiful bolt action sporting rifles like a Remington 700 which comes in a variety of calibres or, ex-military WW2 like a ,303 Enfield or a beautifully restored 7.92mm Mauser which would make superb Boar rifles as well as real-world hunting/survival and defensive rifles. .

I'd rather have one of those to hunt larger game with, than a spring air rifle any day. But as you want a recommended spring air rifle with some poke in it, go for a Weihrauch HW80 .22. At around 20+ ft/lbs output this rifle is a beauty for rabbits and other small game. Mine is 16 years old and still hits very hard and as accurately as I can be, in all weathers, day or night. I love it to bits and if my survival came down to living by my air rifle, this is the one I'd have for higher power air rifle hunting at any rate.

For big stuff it would have to be a Benjamin Rouge in .357 but thats a PCP as mentioned above it would have to be a HW8O in a springer but still way off in power to deal with stuff like boar or deer better to stick with CF in .3O8win etc
