Ferret Cage Security

Recommended Posts

In light off recent posts and media attention, I feel that we need a section designated to security tips to protect our little mutts and ferrets etc.

So quite simple what advice and experiences do you all have in this field?

I've just moved the ferret cage to a spot that beady eyes can view But what can I do to sleep safe at night in terms of securing the cage, what types of locks do you recommend etc?

Cheers guys for any posts

He keeps mines safe while im out, seriously though he does a great job of detering the wrong people, with me having the hawk and alot of people knowing i fly him he gives me peace of mind knowing he wont let anybody in, you ought to see the window cleaners they shit themselves lol, as long as i let them in the garden he knows to leave people alone. Also at night the bark will be enough to wake us up.

Automatic lights are probably a good option as id think most thiefs will try at night but dont want to be in the spot light so to speak

To be fair, padlocks on a hutch aren't going to stop anyone, or even slow them down. Just a quick pull and the screws or wood will come away. Best way IMO is to make it difficult for them to get into your garden, padlock the gate, high fences etc, it may deter them as they're more likely to be spotted. I still can't understand why they're doing it, as its been said already they only cost a fiver and in the summer people find it hard to get rid of kits.

I had a 6 x 3 x 3 aluminium box section and weld mesh cage with double padlocks. Guess what? The b*stards nicked the cage as well.

Arh thats why mine are built into the shed/run they would have to nick the whole fecking building!! (whilst avoiding the dog the wife the lights and my 12 g :D

Im lucky i live in a very safe area.... 8 ft fence at the back with barbed wire on top...

And every fecker knows whos going in and out...

My ferrets are in a 'bin store' ... so should i feel the need.... i can padlock them in... and the hutch doors wont open with the bin store closed...

It wouldnt stop anybody hell bent on taking them.... but would slow them down enough....
