Para Cord ....? (Sorted, Thanks)

Recommended Posts

I need four yards of 'NATO Cammo' para cord. BPR hasn't got any in right now.

The Bay is all bracelets and 100 foot reels of the stuff.

Anyone here have a bit, please? I'll pay, obviously. I just despise ebay / paypal and wouldn't know what to do with eighty eight foot of spare f**king cammo para cord!

Thanks, everyone. Most decent of you all :) Only, Brewza's olive green will do fine. I just need it to string some net to a (Licensed) bird trap I want to get functional.

Ant; What is it? God knows, mate! Maybe someone else here could explain to us? It's just the right colour and won't rot out within a week of touching the ground. That's all I care about!

Don't mean to sound thick but what actually is para cord? parachute cord? I imagine it being similar to the draw cord I use for purse nets?

The british issue stuff is rough and tough cord... id imagine it was used somehow by the paras but im not sure how...

The 'american' stuff is more like survival cord...doesnt rot....or weather... has 7 inner strands...550lb breaking strain.. and comes in a load of fancy colours  ...

Parachute cord (also paracord or 550 cord) is a lightweight nylon kernmantle rope originally used in the suspension lines of US parachutes duringWorld War II. Once in the field, paratroopers found this cord useful for many other tasks. It is now used as a general purpose utility cord by both military personnel and civilians. This versatile cord was even used by astronauts during STS-82, the 82nd Space Shuttle mission, to repair the Hubble Space Telescope.[1]

The braided sheath has a high number of interwoven strands for its size, giving it a relatively smooth texture. The all-nylon construction makes paracord fairly elastic; depending on the application this can be either an asset or a liability.

While the U.S. military has no overall diameter requirements in its specifications, in the field 550 cord typically measures 532 inch (4 mm) in diameter.
