Suzy Ross 236
" What happened to good old fashioned field craft? " people probably asked the same question when folk 1st started lamping Ha, that's true and shortly after they discovered the lamp, they sent telegraphs to each other saying, my rabbits are lamp shy.... Your lucky, I don't have any rabbits here Quote Link to post

paulus 26
with night vision you generally get what you pay for and dont forget the nightvision bit is only half the story a good source of ir light or laser is also required, don't think you can go into a dark field turn on your lidl monocle and the whole field is visible it does not happen good night vision is gen2+ and upwards Quote Link to post

paulus 26
better look through a gen1 monocle then look in the same field with a kite or other quality kit and you will see one is night vision and one is kiddies toys Quote Link to post

The built in illuminate is good. I agree that you should have an additional IR source but you'll see 60 yards easy with the in built one. My only criticism is the limited field of view, but it was only £69.99 nothing like the cost of a Kite or similar. Quote Link to post
kranky 507
You'll have to refocus for different distances with most NV. Quote Link to post

What do you use? Quote Link to post
bullmastiff 615
We were on a shooting contract fairly recently and as spotter I was issued a decent digital monocular. I can't recall the make but no expense was spared on everything else so I'd guess it was probably a decent make. After the first night I'd taken the Nightmaster off of it and put it on my cheap Lidl Nv. It just took too long to auto adjust it's contrast and there was no way to manually set it. Look at the brightly lit grass and it would darken, scan towards the hedge and you couldn't see bugger all for a second before it adjusted... it was bloody frustrating! At least with the cheapy one, once you had it focused to your eye then it was just a slight twist to focus for different distances. I've used it when out with the dog and it definitely has it's place. Half the time you know somethings there anyway just by how the dogs acting but it's handy to check to see if it's a good or safe slip. Quote Link to post
